OBS Studio Tutorial: Stream Two PCs without a Capture Card using NDI

NDI is a new standard that OBS now supports through a plugin made by Palakis. If you want a way to stream without a capture card, that's simple to set up and has minimal impact on performance, NDI is for you. Trust me, it's good.

NDI Recording settings in this video:

Game PC: Resolution 1920x1080, FPS 60, Lanzcos filter.

Stream PC: NVENC encoder, CQP, CQP=15, Profile-High, High Quality preset, Auto.

2:50 _"there is no encoding"_

What I am wondering _(and can't find an answer for as you know from our conversation on twitter)_ is what encoding options the OBS plugin dev uses. In my tests, when NDI is used OBS streams at just 25Mbps inside the LAN, which leads to compression artifacts on the PC that receives the NDI stream. :-/

I will do some more tests and post the results in the thread on the obs forums. Maybe the dev can figure out what is going on.

I've been using the NDI plugin for a couple months or so and it's been fantastic. I've been able to stream games more smoothly that I couldn't hope to stream reliably before. Big fan of your streaming related videos, punisher!

Very cool! I was one of the first streamers to do 2 PC streaming a few years ago. No guides or tutorials on it we had to figure it out on our own. It has always been a pain in the butt to get all of the pieces to work together. Even if the output was slighlty reduced, removing 1 piece of the chain is incredibly helpful! I no longer stream due to heart condition, but I do record for my voice overs from time to time. Neat tech and thanks for sharing! I will share this with my gaming buddies. #thankskickstand

Gonna give this a go when I get back to Uni with my Laptop 😄 Quick question, do you think it would be alright to have all of my overlays, camera etc encoded in the NDI stream from my Gaming PC instead of adding it all in on the Streaming PC? My reasoning is that I don't have that many USB ports on my laptop and I often need peripherals like my studio mic on my gaming pc whilst streaming. :)

1.On what pc u set the scenes like subscribers/donations etc? Gaming or Stream pc?
2.On what pc do u set the audio sound and microfone connected?
3. Is a probblem if i dont have a GPU on stream pc?
4.can i stream with 240hz gaming pc for the stream pc that have 144hz?

Gaming Pc : i9 7920x with 1080ti 240hz
Stream pc : only i7 7700k NO GPU 144hz

I was always curious about Streaming via 2 PCs, but never really tried it because I didn't have much time to devote to tinkering about with settings etc. I was just wondering though if I want to stream at 1920x1080 @ 60fps, which PC do I need to set to output higher quality, the gaming PC or the streaming PC?

I'm having trouble understanding this. I'm familiar with hardware in a PC, but I'm not that good at networking. How exactly do I send the bits to my gaming PC to my streaming PC. I have only one Ethernet port on each of my computers, but I do have a wifi adapter in my gaming PC. Do they both need to be connected to the router?
