Welcome to my World.

Part 2 of a Series

After searching in other parts of the ship, we proceeded to the guideline to make our ascent since we were low on air. As we were moving along freshly broken windows, earlier broken in the morning dive by the Philippine Navy, I noticed a dark duffel bag. I don't know why I stopped and picked it up. As I was moving it out of the way, I glanced down and saw what I thought was a foot, but it looked like it was wrapped in clear plastic. As the same time, my scuba dive partner, Shelley, made a noise and indicated she saw something. I moved towards her position and noticed it was what I saw from the other side. When I talk about this victim, I describe the victim as her. It's because I clearly saw red nail polish on her toenails. I never knew who she was. I remember her being victim #73 to 76. I saw a list of names of the victims in chronological order a week or so after that dive. I never determined who she exactly was, but I hope she found her way to her family. I wanted to know initially who she was, but I was told it's better not to know. It's something I always think about when I remember that day.

Never thought it was so hard to see a person underwater, looked closely and didn’t find her. Beautiful job what you guys do, bringing back home these souls and allowing the family to say goodbye

Good job finding her. I didn't realize a person could be so hard to see in the water. Bless their hearts. :(

May she rest in peace, and her family have the comfort that she is home. May God bless the divers who found her, and those who brought her home. And her family and friends.

at 1:28 you can see her knee wedged against the top corner of the window. at 3:03 you see her foot and toes towards the bottom center

Surprised the cameraman didn’t notice before the female diver did. Realizing you’re looking at another human being when you’re doing a dive has to be one of the most time freezing ‘oh shit’ moments a person can experience

Being a deep dive/wreck diver, I wish I had the training to do this and help :/
Thanks for risking it guys, for giving some rest to all the victim's families and friends. You're awesome ❤

She was swimming to save her life she was way to close to an exit the pressure from the water must of made things fall on her right before her escape. May she rest in peace with the other who have lost their lives in accident.

Thank you. If I were ever to go down in a ship wreck I would like to think someone would find me even if I looked gross and take me home.

During the years I participated in managing and running SAR dogs o too ad been told early on that it was better not to know who it was when you going someone's body to retrieve. On one hand if were were searching for lost hikers or cross country skiers or a small plane would go down in the mountains it you knew a great deal about the one to several people you were looking for, not just name and a description but a search days usually would go on for more that one day or even one-week, very often family and friends would end up joining in these arch in some way and be around the operations camp and you quickly ended up with a great deal if knowledgeable the person, so you often felt like you came to know them. If you found them and they had not made it, I guess already knowing them did make it initially a bit harder but often knowing that I was part of bringing the person home to these people that thought so well of the person or people, and you had a bit of a personality and sense of who they were and bringing them home had closure.

But when we had SAR missions after building collapses from earthquakes or after a wild fire had raged through neighborhoods without time to warn and evacuate, after Mount Saint Helen's erupted and sent lahars and pyroclastic flows streaming down the mountains side, taking out ridges and buildings and home that dotted the mountains, small numbers of people and evacuations had been called for there were people not heard from, after other disasters, or just occasional yearly floods or land slides, and for a while I went along with the advice that I did not want to know. Then I realized that I was actually more settled about the victim I had some knowledge of and had gotten back to the family and friends but that I thought more, even worried more over disaster victims when I was just getting a number that designated our find. I even found myself concerned not knowing if they had family to mourn them or had the whole family been lost in that disaster. If not had they gotten connected and even worried that they had not been identified and were still a number.

The next disaster we worked I made it a point to find out if the remains has been identified and had they had family that was able to gave closure. I even became willing to answer questions some times families had about what may have happened and fir me it actually made doing the worj easier.

Everyone is, of course, different and many are much happier not knowing and not wanting to know but that also does not apply to everyone. Think it's is a very individual choice and you can only ask people why they think one way or the other and then decide what feels right for her.
