I've seen Stephen Stills live several times (with CSN, CSNY and solo). And when I saw him solo around 1994 he possibly did the best guitar solo I've every heard. He incorporated a train that passed by the stage, using the rhythm of of train in his solo. And when the last car went by, he ripped open the solo into a new level.

Gotta love the guy..."Took her song from a dark purply kind of song and turned it into a balls out rock and roll song". Awesome.

It is, surely, one of the greatest of cover-songs/renditions of all time.

I was too late for Woodstock, but this has been one of my favorite songs for a long time!

Steven Stills made Joni Mitchell's song into an anthem !!!

Stills is one of the all-time greats and everything he did in the 1966 - 1977 years has withstood the test of time. Having said that, Joni’s original version of Woodstock sung on “Miles of Aisles” is even more spectacular. What an era of music.

anyone else get goosebumps hearing that clip they played and immediately have to listen to CSNY's version?

Crosby, Stills Nash, AND YOUNG song. That dirty guitar playing you hear is Neil.

The ironic thing is that a whole bunch of them made it back from Woodstock to NYC for the Dick Cavett show - CSNY, Airplane... Lots of cuts on YouTube. Joni played brilliantly on the show, including the brand new song called Woodstock.

Stills' version became THE anthem for the concert. LOVE Joni, but her version would have been too soft and delicate to serve as symbol for the whole concert weekend.

... the signature distorted guitar intro was all Neil Young and that almost never gets mentioned....

The show was taped on Tuesday afternoon after Woodstock. Other artists from the concert had made it, but even Jimi Hendrix (who was scheduled to appear) was too tired to make it. Another reason Geffen was worried about with Joni. Cavett should have moved it a few more days. Way to go Dick.

Brilliant CSN&Y song. Matthews Southern Comfort also did a great version of this song.

you should also listen to Nash/Crosby doing Joni Mitchell's "Urge for Going". at first it's quite jarring but it grows on you.

All three versions were awesome, but the Matthews Southern Comfort version will always be THE definitive Woodstock anthem.
