love this! i actually had no idea the cinnamon roll/too pure bit came from the onion, that's hilarious.

Okay this was an excellent explainer video! I did not know of the second component required for a work to be determined a romance novel...that explains why I’ve heard some folks say that the term “romance novel” is used so loosely.
Also...plot moppet is a word that makes me howl with laughter 😂😂😂 those sound like such insufferable devices barely masquerading as characters 😩🤣
If I ever get off this kick of reading heavy duty nonfiction, I may seek your insight on books with cinnamon roll heroes/heroines 😊
Superb video, Kazen! This was super fun to watch :D

Not reading romance doesn’t mean that I don’t love all your romance content and this was wonderful! Who knew there was a whole land out there with such hilarious terms like plot moppet and cinnamon roll and all that Greek! Please, please continue this series!

I love this! Super helpful. I think the first time I ever heard the term plot moppet was from one of your videos. I guessed what it meant by context clues and now I’m glad I guessed right lol.

I LOVE this, Kazen! as a romance newbie this is super helpful (and with the ones I did know, it's reassuring to know I was interpreting them correctly! haha)
I LOVE CINNAMON ROLL CHARACTERS! also yeah trying to explain the origins of the term to someone is hilarious but very confusing 😂 I think you did a great job though!!
I hadn't heard of plot moppet before but 1) that is so fun to say, 2) YES SO ANNOYING, and 3) I think the variation I'm most familiar with is another one that drives me bonkers, and that's when there's a guy best friend (probably with some romantic undertones) who is literally only there to motivate the main female character to make certain decisions for Plot Reasons 🙄
ALSO in regards to your end comment: yes, that is a great phrase, and I want to share one of my favorite Twitter bios ever which is a similar joke but Three Musketeers-inspired: it's from author Melinda Salisbury, and it's "Athos in the streets. Aramis in the sheets. Porthos when there's sweets." 😂😂😂 I just love it!!

Thanks, Kazen! I remember the term "shipping" and how invested fans in kdrama world would be over certain "ships". 🤣 Ratings could suffer if certain people were "shipped". That's when I started watching melodrama and historical dramas. 🤣

Great list and definitions! I'd not heard gamma or plot moppet, but love that term and will probably use it going forward!

Love this! I already knew most of these (thank you Smart Bitches, Trashy Books for your two excellent nonfiction novels about romance novels) but it's still fun to see them laid out. EDIT: Idea for a future video! Talking about all of the genres/sub-genres in romance since there's so many staples that aren't as popular in other fiction genres (like Regency).

Loved this! If you want to do another video like this, I'd be interested in hearing some dark romance terms. I've heard the terms "dark" or "taboo" or "erotic" used interchangably which just seems wrong to me.

I did not know what a plot muppet was or the existence of a gamma character. Thanks!!

I think I was totally fine with alphaholes when I was a teenager. I've reread some of the books that I loved from that period as an adult and been like....wait, what?? I don't remember this character being such a jerk. In general, I've come to the conclusion that I ought not reread old favorites too often, since rarely do they hold up to my current perspective (but I enjoy the memory of having loved them then). As for cinnamon roll, I think I need to start calling Sush that. Too good for this world, too pure, is 100% him. ^_^

I'm not a romance reader, but I do love plot moppet!
