I completely understand where he is coming from. I grew up in a faith-traditional home as well, and I never really questioned my faith. Sam Harris popularity grew, and I too would completely avoid anything he had to say, mostly because I was afraid of his atheistic objections. Interestingly enough, I also came across William Lane Craig (I had no idea who he was), but not in a debate setting; rather, in a conversational setting. I was never too interested in Ben Shapiro's Sunday specials and never cared to watch them, but for some reason I decided to watch Ben's conversation with Dr. Craig, and truly, by the end of the conversation, I just needed to hear more of what this William Lane Craig had to say. I could not get enough. I bought two of his books and watched anything related to him. Throughout this ongoing journey, I came across his debate with Sam Harris, and boy was I glad I had read and watched those videos and books. I was astonished that this renowned atheist would not engage with the topic of the debate and would, as pointed out by Dr. Craig, opt for red herrings. It seemed as though he was the one afraid to interact with the opposition (and not me). Sam Harris just became one of the many atheists Dr.Craig would shut down. Needless to say, my faith was secured. And truly, I am truly thankful to Dr.Craig for helping me get closer to the Lord and kindling my love for God.

I live in Nagaland (India) where the American Baptist missionaries brought the Good News to us and I live in a Christian, conservative, and religious Sate but me too I had started doubting my faith especially introduced by the new atheist but when I started watching WLC debates, Ravi Zacharias, Jordan Peterson, etc. I knew that there were solid reasons to believe in Christ. It was a long battle of searching-finding-questioning but I finally decided to give up and come back home to Him. I thank God for WLC because he played a big role in my coming to Christ.
May God continue to use him and bless him with health and long-life.

Read the book of Colossians. Don't get hung up on church denominations, doctrines, catechisms, etc. These things can be good and helpful but only the Spirit of God can draw a soul to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ will build HIS church and the gates of hell (or science) will NOT prevail against it. Organized religion is not necessarily representative of the Church that Christ is building. Organizations are based on "organizational people" and all their baggage. The Church that Christ is building is being built by the Holy Ghost. It is the supernatural Body of Christ and Christ is the Head of that body.
