Quality of life for Australians 'going backwards'

Sky News host Cory Bernardi says the national population plan is divisive and it sacrifices Australians' quality of life for the appearance of economic growth.

"The governments want a big population in order to prop up the economy ... even though the quality of life for a lot of Australians is actually going backwards per capita," he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

As a generalisation, a reducing "quality of life for Australians" is not a new thing, and has been occurring since about the 1980's under all political parties. In the 1970's a young couple could relatively easily buy a home. There were plenty of well paid jobs even for the unskilled in Australia's manufacturing sector. Hospital and doctors waiting rooms weren't overflowing. The roads and public transport weren't choking to death. There were endless lovely quite and affordable beachside towns along the coast were someone could retire.
Compared to today, while some have done well, vastly more (and an increasing percentage) have gone way backways since life in Australia's 'golden years'.

The quality of life for the excess 20, 000 Australians who passed in 2022 certainly went backwards, as far as is possible.

Can’t agree more, we have generation of people that have never worked, but have a roof over their head and pay minimal rent.

I heard recently that since covid, the cost of living in general has gone up 10-15%.
I'd safely say that a more accurate figure would 25-30%
