There is clinical depression, which has to be treated and is helped usually with meds. This is the therapy…that we go through when chatting to the therapist. when you’re so traumatised it may take years before you reach this stage. Insha Allah may Allah make it easy for you and all of us who have this illness. Ameen Thanks sisters for helping us from an Islamic perspective.

Although I'm certain that it is not your intention, to tell someone to compare their struggle to the Prophet PBUH is akin to telling someone they shouldn't be depressed because other people in the world have it worse. I agree we should build on a gratitude practice and always be aware of the dangers of filtering however I feel the last part of this video may not be the best way forward. Someone suffering from low self esteem, anxiety and/or depression is much more likely to them turn it on themselves and instead of feeling empowered to change will feel that they are even more of a failure because they cant cope with their 'small' problems compared to all the struggles of the Prophet.

As a white Muslim from Indiana USA sura 93 especially 93:3 has a very special place in my heart. I came to Islam when i was 18 just coming out of Trauma and addiction. Later in life i began working a job that exposed me to alot more intense trauma in other countries and my PTSD became C-PTSD (complex). My struggle with C-PTSD has lead to serious addiction issues to cope and has driven me away from mh Deen. Because im a white Muslim from a place like indiana i naturally feel disconnected fromy either community. So im very elated to see Muslim professionals talking about trauma from this approach. I very much wish to become a good Muslim again. But truama has been at the core thru all my downs and struggles and i really want help addresing it from an islamic perspective.

If lets say a person is so traumatized that they can't work and have no supportive people in life and now is at risk of becoming homeless and live in fear due to actually being powerless to change the situation, how is focusing on other blessings going to make it any easier? I don't find the "it could be worse" positive thinking to be helpful in all situations. A person may be homeless but still have an ok physical health. They are grateful for that health but that won't make homelessness any less traumatic despite that it would be worse to be homeless as a sick person. We need more strategies to cope with situations that threaten our basic human needs and turns our fight and flight system on 24/7.

Comparing myself to the prophet and things I have or haven't been through while he hadn't or have been through isn't really that effective!!! After all he has got the best blessing of all other blesdings!!! And all other things whether bad or good are simply super insignificant to the fact that he is the absolute best person to ever walk on this earth... and the first person to inter paradise!!! Well... just the idea of comparing myself to him is making me desperate!!!

There is many ways to help yourself, go to the gym, dress well look after yourself and whatever you do avoid doctors and specialists who will push medicine down your throat making you believe you’ll get better trust me you won’t, I’m a living person and I’ve gone through many doctors, have taken their medicine and have nearly died, do not believe these doctors but go to the gym workout and learn to cope with depression
