I was robbed in Bali.

I constantly keep replaying the moment in my head when the snatch happened, and I keep thinking to myself - if only I’d worn it in a sling across my body, or if only I’d kept it in my pocket. The funny thing is that I’d worn my purse crossbody, in the intuitive fear of a snatch, but never would I have imagined someone could have taken my phone too!

This happened in Canggu in Bali and I read on Trip Advisor that this is a recent criminal activity taking place in Bali, in the last four to five months.

As someone who loved Bali, this incident will forever be like a scar in my heart. I felt so violated and honestly, very stupid for not backing up my content. I do content creation for a living so I hundred percent should have backed up and this has been a hard lesson.

The most painful ache is the lost videos of Sabir, some of which I’d not even sent to my family or friends, that were just of him and me, or just him. I’ll miss them, and every time I think of those videos my eyes well up.

I hope you’re not a victim of this and I felt this was an important video to be put up. I hope it creates the awareness I intended it to create.

Robbery is a huge crime, they don't only take material things, they take memories and a part of people's soul..they break hearts! so sad for you

a tip from an indo: first rule when riding a bike as a passenger in indo (not just in bali) is to not have your phone out so these types of theft (we call them jambret) don’t occur. if you have to open your phone, BE LOWKEY and hold onto it very tightly with both hands so if they do try to snatch it they won’t be able to.

same thing with bags, put them inbetween you and the driver’s back, don’t just let them dangle around in the open. also put your hands on your lap. just try to blend in with the native people as much as you can so you don’t get targeted

This happened to me in December in London. I was with my boyfriend and my phone got pocketed. That was the first gift from my boyfriend and he’s still paying the instalments. I was crying outside the Big Ben when I found out. The worst this is that it happened just a few steps away from my house and it didn’t have applecare. The positive thing that happened was that it was the first time my boyfriend said to me that I’m going to be his wife one day and then he’ll be mine so I shouldn’t cry over a material thing just because it was from him. Fast forward now, I am indeed his wife.❤

This is so incredibly sad. Like who cares about the phone but the content being lost is irreplaceable. My goodness! Those precious videos and pictures are worth so much. Content can always be recreated by going back to the same place. But when it comes to baby videos, it’s near impossible to recreate because they grow up so fast. Im truly sorry for your loss. I wish the thieves would have given a reasonable ransom or something to allow for that content to be released to you. Now, you know to back it up. Still a tragedy. This exact situation happened to me 6 years ago, on the very first night of my trip there.
I went there for my honeymoon.
I was devastated the whole time because I lost all the pics of my pre-wedding ceremonies, all memories of me and my family at time of my wedding and even my pictures as bride that I look at the time of getting ready etc.

All those beautiful chats that I had with my then fiance every.

Most of the things were not backed up and I still feel bad that I just lost those.

Not to mention I stayed without a phone for the next 2 months.

Again right after marriage is a special time and sometimes like this happened was so hear breaking!

I was returning listening to the songs, just a few minutes away from our hotel in Kuta, Bali.

I had the same experience near Seminyak. Me and my husband were coming back from Uluwat Temple in a two wheeler, two people came close to us in a bike and tried to snatch my chain, i would have died in that incident. Fortunately they couldn't pull me down out of the bike so I am still alive.

Every word you said has happened to me aswell when my husband and I went to Bali 9 months back for our 1st wedding anniversary..including not backing up photos and videos and hadn't even sent it to any of my family or friends. It was our first international trip and my first gift from my husband. Bali was such a beautiful memory but this incident will always stay as a nightmare and everytime i think of it, i will get chills of fear. But I'm grateful that it's just the phone which went away and nothing happened to either me or my husband and our documents were also safe (because we were carrying passport, visa etc) but deep down I'm venting here hoping I will still get my old phone someday like a miracle..

So sorry for the lost 😢 i'm live in Bali and my local friend always warned me that Bali is not like before cause so much outsiders come in and settle there. Crime happens when there is an opportunity

I visited Bali in 2018 and the exact SAME incident happened to me. My sister had my phone and she was giving directions to one of my cousins. We were on the other scooty. It was dark and a lonely street, when someone came on a bike and snatched the phone right in front of our eyes. He sped up and we chased him until we realised that it was a foreign country so it could be risky. We also went to the police station to complain but nothing came out of it :(
