Who Is Tim Walz, Kamala Harris' VP Pick?

"Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz are holding their first joint appearance at a rally in Philadelphia — kicking off their sprint across the electoral map.

A former educator, Walz is currently in his second term as Minnesota governor and chairs the Democratic Governors Association. He is expected to lean on his biography to introduce himself to voters, many for the first time, according to excerpts of his remarks."

It’s my understanding that Walz was an Army Command Sergeant Major, the highest level an enlisted man can go, except for one special guy at a time that they send straight to DC. I had a friend in North Carolina who retired as a First Sergeant when he was on the Sergeant Major promotion list. I remember looking at the Fort Bragg Web site, and the Command Sergeant Major was right there on the main page beside the commanding Lieutenant General. It seems to me that this is a substantial accomplishment, and especially when compared with a couple of private-no-class Republicans, and it should be noted repeatedly during the campaign.

I'm no liberal by any stretch of the imagination, but I really like this guy Tim Walz. Just keep showing the video of the little girl hugging him when he signed the free lunch bill and just speak the truth Republicans are against feeding hungry children.

Tim Walz is such an easygoing guy. I thought Josh Shapiro would get the nod, but something was telling me that Kamala had better chemistry with Tim, so I regained faith and I’m glad I did. Go Blue! Never thought I would say that other than Michigan football. :)

Everyone is excited about Walz (from Progressives to Nancy Pelosi to blue collar workers) because he passed the parts of the Democrats' economic agenda that are widely popular not just in Minnesota, but in all 50 states & 435 districts, and is the best advocate for passing that agenda nationwide!

He has a good record but I think, as a woman there is an empathetic aspect to this for Harris. He seems like a genuinely affable, decent guy. He resonates with everyday people and he was a schoolteacher so clearly he cares for kids. He has an exuberance about him that is palpable. I completely understand why she chose him. I think it will bode very well.

Democrats currently form a united front. Everyone aligns behind Kamala. And it could not be worse for Republicans when democrats get their shit together. Shapiro was graceful and he will deliver PA for Kamala. The energy is palpable

Labor advocates could not be happier about Kamala Harris' pick of Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate. The cheering was instant following the official announcement. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers noted that Walz understands the struggles of working people. The AFL-CIO hailed the governor as a principled fighter and labor champion. The Service Employees International Union pointed to what it called "the Minnesota Miracle, " a sweeping package of pro-worker laws passed by the state's Democratic legislature last year and signed into law by Walz.
