How To do an Effective YouTube Giveaway Contest

Does doing a YouTube contest increase exposure and engagement or does it usually backfire? We discuss the downsides to doing a giveaway on your YouTube channel and the potential drawbacks and then describe how to do a giveaway that actually helps build your community while building exposure and sharing of your videos.

It's important to note that YouTube has policies and guidelines in place for any contest you do here. Make sure you stay within the rules if you do a contest of your channel!

Well, what if you make the watch time conditional for entry? For example, they have to mention something about the video in order to be entered into the raffle, and they don't know when in the video this "something" is, so they have to watch the video to find it.

For us the two biggest things that help us are collaborations and posting on all sorts of different websites. We post on reddit, tumblr, google+ communities, etc. You have to find places where there are people who are passionate about the topic of your videos. Reddit and google+ communities are a great place to start because there is a forum or page for just about anything. I'd start there. Also, contact similar youtube channels and see if you could add each other to your featured channels lists

I'm thinking about doing a contest where I dropship a video to the winner from amazon. Having to look up all of the state, federal, and YouTube laws has been daunting, but I guess that should be right up my alley. I'm having the readers of the stories make a short paragraph/essay of why they like the submitted story that I read on YouTube to others so this way it gives the reader a chance to give a review because readers love to do that and it gives the story writer confidence in their story. I think it is a win-win for both of them. At least I hope :) I'm a little nervous about starting because I just want to make sure I follow all laws.
