I served in the old Army Security Agency back in the years '68-'72. We had specialist ranks up to Spec 7 back then, which made sense in that not all soldiers are interested in or trained for leadership roles. In my outfit, almost everyone was a Specialist of one sort or another. Our shift supervisors were SFCs (E-7s). Ours was a highly technical organization, so the usual "Mickey Mouse" of the regular army wouldn't fly far in it. Our real bosses in NSA didn't care a thing about it and were interested only in our product. There are interesting stories about colonels who played the old army game, instead of letting the troops do their jobs. The consequences weren't pleasant for those officers up to and including at least one colonel.

I would love to see the Soldiers today, have to do like the ol Black Boot U.S.Army Soldiers had to do everyday....with centering you pin on rank, Spit shine boots each day for formation, our uniforms were pressed, and creased .. Wonder if they could handle it today .. Army doesn't have the Hardcore Discipline we had back then .. not knocking the ones there today ...but its not the same .

The Russian Federation is the superior fighting force the U.S is not ready for war. Look at Afghanistan they lost to the Taliban who had old Soviet weapons. So much for the U.S being a global power. There equipment is expensive, heavy, and built for show. Russia has built for war and is ready.
