I paid $9 for set of 2, a big and a small, back in 1987. I've used each one once when nothing else would work, so yes I would buy them again.
If the blade starts to twist, stop tightening, give it a tap with the back of the shifter, and then resume tightening again.

I have one and i love it.I love any kind of tools that works with brute force.I dunno my just works as it supposed to.

I love your videos Pete. I would have used a socket or a ratcheting wrench. These splitters can be effective in some situations but even in the case of it being mangled it still gives you a ledge to put a cold hammered chisel on so you can force some rotation. Realistically you have to split the nut from multiple sides or if you're lucky to drive that wedge in far enough and use the tool as a wrench. I wouldn't use it so much on rusted nuts but if you had one that had already been rounded off it would be a valuable tool to have. Either way you're better off to replace the stud afterwards anyway so if you have the room just cut it off with a grinder. 9 bucks makes me question the hardness of the wedge but I've had good tools that cost less not not many.

Hey Pete! The tool you’re using does work actually, once you clamp the nut you unscrew it. It’s not supposed to chop it off

You use it to cut through the nut in line with the bolt, destroying and removing the nut once you pull the splitter off.

To be ideal the sharp edge of the blade sould have an angle, such that as it tightens it pulls the tool down, stopping it from ridong over the top of the nut/bolt

You might have over torqued it try again and use a breaker bar

You are using it wrong.
You should use your power ratchet on it to snap the rounded off nut.
It will split the nut allowing it to come off easy
