Going over the ideal setup for the Citi Trifecta. Should you chose the Citi Premier with it's $95 annual fee or the Citi Prestige with it's $495 annual fee?

The Citi Prestige is OP af. I wish I knew about it before they stopped issuing it considering I spend all my points on airfare and not hotels. Spending points on fancy hotels with my vacation style is a waste because I’m pretty much never at the hotel except for when I’m sleeping. I always just find the cheapest possible hotel in the location where I’m going with at least a 4 star rating and a decent number of customer reviews. As long as my bed is soft, the room is relatively clean, and I feel safe sleeping there, that’s all I need. The rest is just a bonus. I’d rather spend my points going from New York to Hawaii for a 15000 point round trip! Such a steal! Then I can pay for 6 hotel nights and get 2 free plus and additional $250 off my stay. With how good of a value that is I see why they discontinued it.

One thing to keep in mind with the premier/prestige is that you need either of those two cards to get the full 1:1 transfer point value as opposed to like .8:1 and stuff

I'm definitely going to use the Double Cash + Custom Cash, but I am still leaning toward the Amex Platinum for premium benefits (Business version if Schwab loses it's 1.25 cpp).

Did you say unfortunately or fortunately for the citi custom? Did you say it's seperate?

Would definitely love to see the Citi, Amex, and Chase comps. Thanks for all your work.

Fantastic breakdown. Assuming annual fees are way for military (they are), would your analysis change and say that I should get the Prestige card? I already have the Platinum, venturex, and reserve but I see no reason not to churn the premier or prestige.

Hmm the Citi Prestige is not taking applications as of 01 July. So perhaps a refresh? Maybe Pam Habner has another thing up her sleeve. She released the Custom Cash from out of no where. She was responsible launching for the Chase Sapphire Reserve back when she was with Chase.

Definitely liked the point breakdown at the end. I think that's something interesting that doesn't get talked about enough in context of these setups.

I love your break done. I would appreciate seeing your comparison for each set up with Chase and Amex.

nicely done... however, I have the prestige and in my opinion it is a terrific card... most of my travel is in south america and my hotel stays are typically not at either Hilton or Marriott properties ... the fourth night free benefit has saved me an average of $400 per year (2 x $200). factor in the $250 annual travel credit and I am coming out ahead... add in the 5x for my restaurant spend and I am am doing even better...i have found that the critics of this card have never had it in their wallets. I am planning on getting rid of my amex gold ($250 AF) and putting all of my grocery spend on my new custom cash card ($0 AF).

So is the 5X on restaurants on the Prestige ONLY in the US?

Thanks that was great to see you run the #s between the prestige & premier. I take a lot of road trips so i decided to get citi premier. With the easy to redeem hotel benefit its basically a no AF 3x unlimited card. I'll probably go for the CSP to cover auto rentals & flights to have insurance protections & keep the premier for my hotel stays.

One correction. City will not allow product change from Double Cash to Custom Cash. No explanation, tried multiple times. Given this change, you want to be wary that others might be blocked as well.

Great Video!! Citi tells me I have an 839 Credit Score but they would not approve me for the Custom Cash. Looks like Citi is not in the cards for me!

A trifecta should have a travel card - WITH travel insurance and other protections. None of Citi's cards offer any kind of travel insurance (except the Costco Visa) or other travel protections. So, Citi cannot have a trifecta in the meaningful sense of the word.

You should add citi, chase, amex, vs cash back

Great breakdown 👍 I recently got into Citi cards starting with the AA Platinum card. Interested in getting the in branch $300 offer for the Custom Cash card to start in the TY points ecosystem

Here's the problem w the setup. It's not just you, most of YT;'s do it. Groceries & Rest are rarely a 50/50 split. You either spend more on groceries or more eating out. The exception being if you spend a lot when you eat out. If you do, then you are probably not thinking about maximizing points. I think having two cards is a better setup than 3. If you enjoy lounge access, then Prestige/DC or CC, if you do not care for Lounge access, Premier/DC or CC. There is no real benefit to have the tri w citi. With Chase you can argue the multiplier aspect at least. You get no such thing with Citi.

All Citi has to do is bring back the travel insurance, and the demand for their travel cards will skyrocket to the moon 🚀 🌙.
