Shouldn't engine reliability be taken into account as a very important parameter?

How the fuck is a 1.4 VW engine better than a BMW 1.5 or a Mercedes 2.0?

I like volkswagen. I really do. But 1.4 TSI is one of the very worst engine on the market. Nearly everything on this motor can easily break..

1.4 tsi really? one of the worst and least reliable engines in vw's line up

I am going to go with Mazda 2.0 Skyactive-G 165 for my top non-performance engine up to 2 litres. No turbo. Decent performance. Mazda reliability. I wouldnt trust VW group engines to power my lawn mover. They either break after couple thousand miles (turbo-petrols) or generate more crap than diesel-electric locomotive (TDI).

1.4 TSI? With all the problems that that engines has? really??
The best engine is the one that can crack the pistons in half?

What do you define Best. To me it's reliability, ease of repair, frugality and of course power in the correct rpm range, in this order. So, not seeing Honda and Toyotas here is bit of...

Fair enough, they are good engines but the best engine of all time is the 1.9 TDI diesel for Audi, seat, Skoda and vw as it is bullet proof and can run way over 100, 000 miles with ease

2014 seat leon 1.4tsi. Despite bad reviews of the older versions a have trusted this one. After 160k km no problems whatsoever. Can be thirsty when trashed unlike diesel but on normal driving very good on fuel, very flexible, no oil consumption etc. Looks like changing faulty components like piston rings, cam belt instead stretching chain and other problematic parts made this engine a reliable one. Still feels like new.

Mat, Volkswagen's 1.9 TDI PD should have been top of that list and you know it. It may be discontinued but that engine. Is. A. Legend.

My Polo Blue GT has this engine and it is really impressive . When cylinder deactivation cuts in the mpg is average 55 but it still pulls really well when the turbo and 4 cylinders cut in.Had the car 3 years totally reliable and would recommend without hesitation

I've got a 1.4 TSI in my 2014 Leon, I've had the cylinder head replaced under warranty due to a design flaw and I have a recorded average of 35 mpg on fuelly over 73, 000 miles. Although I can get as much as 50 mpg on long slow motorway drives.

the Renault 1.5 dCi has it all. Economy, legendary reliability, enormous toque for its size. Hands down

Oh yes.. The 1.4tsi from vw is brilliant. Tell that to my scirocco and many others who had lost 2 cylinders of the engine and the injection was pulling more fuel that was supposed to and even melted some parts! I am looking forward now for some Japanese or Korean car. Suzuki, Honda and Mazda are in my sight for my next car. Vw no more thanks.
