Should We Eat More Bugs? | National Geographic

More than a quarter of the world's population eats insects, and the rest of us have plenty of reasons to do the same. They're high in fat and protein, and they're less resource-intensive to raise, which is better for the environment. They could make for a tasty way to feed our growing planet—if you can get past the "yuck" factor.

By 2050 we'll need to feed two billion more people. Click here for a special eight-month series exploring how we can do that—without overwhelming the planet:

we don't have to eat bugs.  just stop cutting down forests to turn them into soybean fields to feed beef cattle.  just hunt the monkeys and birds, etc. in the forest and eat that instead. if something becomes endangered stop eating it and eat something different.  eat whatever there is too much of basically (which is ironically probably humans at this point)

There are some good articles on Google about raising Quail, pigeons, rabbits, and tilapia. Check it out to see what might work for your particular situation. Clubs exist for some of these to exchange info. like garden clubs. Also, local cooperatives, urban renewal organizations and such. Even if you don't have a balcony, open lots in urban areas can be used.

I would be willing to try certain insects that are cooked properly as a substitute for meat, but DAMNIT I NEED MY BACON!

No. Raise your own protein, chicken eggs, fresh water shellfish, beans, goat milk, very easy in tiny to very small areas.

Even this wouldn't matter. When there is more food, there will be more people. Stop addressing the symptom of the problem.

I really agree to Andrew Zimmern's words, "What's common cuisine in one country can be an exotic edible in another." We find them weird and odd coz they are not common food on our everyday plates. And usually, we are turned off by the food not because of the taste, as also agreed by Andrew Zimmern, but by the look of it.

The disgusting factor is in the motives presented in this video... Why should we industrialize consistently most everything that exists?! It's just crazy not to realize that our food crisis is due to the marketing of foods, not its sources...!
