Hello and welcome to a little video about military pay and how much you could make in the Canadian Forces.
I am NOT a financial advisor nor am I trained in the area of pay. I am just talking to you guys about what I see online on the Canadian military benefits and pay page and explaining a little bit about how the pay works to my understanding and how much you could make each year before tax and other deductions.

Hope you enjoyed the video please like the video and subscribe to the channel.

Hi Duncan, could you do a video in the future about what you should buy, that's not already provided by the military, that will make your job or life in the CAF easier?

I'd assume this same pay applies to reserves too.

Knowing what you now, would you have enrolled as an officer instead?

Could you do a video on promotion timelines in both NCM and Officer ranks, thanks ?

Calgary kid here (I like your hat and flag back there btw, very nice)
I have been in the application process for the Army since the beginning of this year, it has always been my goal since I was really little to be a soldier. Next month I will begin my basic training and hopefully I will graduate basic and I can fulfill my dream of serving our country

Officer Pay: O/Cdt-Lt pay rates depend on your entry/commissioning plan. Regular Officer Training Plan(ROTP) and Direct Entry Officer(DEO) pay starts at the far right and you move on up. It is also common to have NCMs commission and become officers (like me). The most common commissioning plans are University Training Plan Non Commissioned Members (UTPNCM which i did) and Commission From the Ranks (CFR if you are at least a Sergeant/Petty Officer 2nd Class). Depending on what your pay was prior to commissioning will determine where you start on these pay scales. As Duncan said, pay goes up and it would not be a good incentive for a member to take a pay cut to become an officer so therefore they had to make 10 incentive levels for these 2Lts/Lts to ensure in most cases, a UTPNCM/CFR officer will actually get a pay raise when they are commissioned and promoted to 2Lt.

You have to be a 2Lt for a minimum of 1 year before getting promoted to Lt but also after you become qualified in your occupation. You must be an Lt for two years before promotion to Captain. At Captain, everyone goes to the same pay scale. As noted before, if your Lt pay is higher than the minimum Capt Pay then you will be put on a higher incentive. CFRs are the big exception to this because Sergeants/Petty Officers 2nd Class and Warrant Officers/Petty Officers 1st Class are promoted to Lt upon commission but must be an Lt for 3 years before promotion to Capt so in the end it is a minimum 3 years between commissioning and reaching Captain.

What's that mean for those of you looking to join: If you want to become an officer right away, there are two programs for you, ROTP and DEO depending if you have a university degree or not. If you're not certain, you can join as an NCM and look to commission in the future without worrying about taking a pay cut to do so.

You said CAF pay always goes up. Not always because back in the early 90s for example I was PTE 1 for three years until promoted to CPL. I can see those days returning due to the budget. Biggest benefit is having a pension.

I'd like to know what deductions you get, because this is all good and all but NET is NET.

I read that payments are monthly. Roughly.
When do CAF members get paid? Is it different for individuals?
