Homelessness in an industry that profits off of continuation of the misery and suffering of others. Non-profits in North America receive billions of dollars to "solve" this problem, shelters are built, low income housing is subsidized, safe supply and injection sites are implemented and the problems perpetuate. While many of the people involved participate for altruistic reasons, those who profit from this "industry" have no intention or motivation to solve the problem and see their income stream and positions of power evaporate.

we used to have a semi-known homeless man in my hometown. I remember that my friends and i used to pester the poor guy, i met him a couple of years later and deeply apologized to him, he got off most of the drugs he was on back then and was actually a very interesting character. I remember me and my friends stealing small things from supermarkets and giving it to him. We even helped him build is shack underneath the bridge. Sadly he overdosed on heroin a couple of years laters. I hope he knew we didn't hate him, we just didn't understand him and were conditioned to dislike him.

DC started this awhile ago and it hurts the elderly and disabled the most. My mother has back issues and she has to stand while waiting for the bus and doesn’t have a place to rest while walking.

Where I live in Oregon the homeless refuse any real help. They get cash and food stamps from the county and use it all on drugs. They won’t go to shelters where they have to be sober. And quite frankly every time I’ve tried to help one I’ve been treated rudely. They put tents up in our parks and in front of our homes. They need to go if they don’t want to improve their situation. I’m over it.

The funny part about New York City's "anti-homeless" architecture is that New York City has a "right to shelter" mandate that requires the city to house the homeless. (Hence New York City suddenly being against federal open immigration policies now that border crossers have figured this out.) The entire State of Massachusetts has a similar law. Much of the cruel architecture in NYC, I suspect, is to stop another Occupy Wallstreet.

You should research the organizations that claim to help/feed the homeless. A city in California was donated a bunch of meals and instead of going around and handing them out, they threw them in the dumpster and received a paycheck. I believe it was a "city job".

Homelessness is the truth of city life. If you can’t keep up with the demanding obstacles they put in front of you, then you live on the streets.

The system isn't broken, it's working just like it was designed to.

Our society values nothing more than productivity and sometimes even movement for movements sake. Anyone who doesnt participate in the song and dance is ostracized and kicked under the rug.

I'm from a small town and indiana and moved to Seattle for 2 years and was mind blown. Although my most normal conversation I had was with a home free guy, it was crazy to see the theft, the blocked underpass, spikes everywhere.

I don't really give change to homeless, but if I started seeing signs telling me not to, I would start simply out of spite for the system.

Genuinely heartbreaking to know this problem can be fixed in america with merely 20 billion dollars when we have spent far more on far less important matters. And that whole situation in San Francisco just proves how quickly they can actually do something about this, they regard these people as LESS THAN ANIMALS. When did humanity become so undignified...

The rich are so wealthy because they're greedy and too selfish to share anything with anyone.
One day, if they ever find themselves out on the streets, I hope no-one gives them even one dime. Karma.

These not only say fuck your rights to the homeless, it also violates acts regarding accessibility and catering for the elderly and disabled.
"Oh we don't want people loitering!" Then build A HOMELESS SHELTER! To any city council that has done these or plan to, you're heartless knobheads.

Interesting how all those lovers of social justice are no where to be found when the homeless are concerned

One day when the power goes out the homeless will teach us...the first will be last and last will be first!

Plain and simple. The ventilation systems and benches are not intended for sleeping... Designing something for it to be used in the way it is intended is not offensive or hostile. NYC is one of the only cities in the world to offer "Right to Shelter" as a law. Meaning homeless people from other cities come to NYC and the city must offer housing. The city is overrun. The solution would be having other states and cities share the load and offer similar laws.

Homeless people should live in the woods, hunting and gathering, if they don’t want to take part in society. The city is no place for people to live.

You shouldn't help others if you don't help yourself.
