US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has visited Kyiv and announced details of a 400 million dollar aid package for Ukraine. Monday's announcement came just two weeks before a presidential election that could put further aid in doubt.

During the visit, a Russian bombardment hit the eastern city of Pokrovsk, killing three people. Moscow is slowly advancing toward the city, a key transportation hub that could open up further advances in the area. Our correspondent Max Zander visited the frontline city to talk to its defenders and see the devastation caused by Russia's advance.

For more, we talk to DW’s Max Zander, who joins us from Kyiv.

After Pokrovsk falls, you can declare it is of no strategic value - like Bakhmut.

I remember in 2023 the Ukrainians said the Druzhba hotel was civilian. After the attack early on Monday evening, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, said Moscow had struck an “ordinary residential building”.
Now DW casually says that it was used by the military

Refusing peace and expecting to win by begging for support?this is lunacy at it's highest level.

The world is definitively divided: on one side, bullies, colonizers, thieves of resources, who want others to bow to them. And on the other side, those who are fed up with this wicked game.

Who says they won't take it? It's a matter of when and not if they will take it

As soon as the Russians enter Pokrovsk, it will become a strategically unimportant town.
I remember how Severodenetsk, Lisičansk, Soledar, Bakhmut, Avdeevka, Ugledar . . . were also key strategic towns
and when the Russians occupied them they became strategically unimportant 🙂

Ukraine should have remained neutral, and not to have suffered the cost of NATO's ambitions.
