No spark. Is it the spark plug or the coil?

To test the ignition coil ground the spark plug and see if there is spark. If not then remove the kill switch and see if there is spark.

If there is then the wiring or the switch is bad. If not then the ignition coil is bad.

Thank you for this video! By Gods grace, this video aided me in starting a motorcycle. I checked the spark plug, and ignition coil per the steps shown. Initially i thought i needed a new ignition, then decided to trace the wires from the ignition further through the bike. Found a split wire. Spliced it back together, voila!

Also: points could be stuck/corroded open. Ohm meter, or continuity chk ignition wire back to magneto: turn over engine slowly to note points going to ground and back to high. resistance; spark plug removed.

Sometimes the coil mounts, get corroded, and cause bad ground..I use file, or emery cloth to polish up..

Would putting In performance spark plugs do anything bad? I remember when I first replaced the spark plugs, all were good except the 4th which was white, crusty and burnt. I drove 30000 km in 8 months and just drove 850 km in a day the last week. Oh man, maybe I asked too much of a van from 98...

The plugs kinda oily on 1st and 4th imma try doing the spark test thing when I wake up

Aight my brain small its clearly my starter my wires are fine 😅

I have brand new 2 year old 79cc engine and after this past winter I tried starting it up and it didn't have as much power when accelerating, it could hardly take me up a slight hill. Do you think that because it doesn't have much power anymore, that it could be the smark plug coil? I've changed the carburetor and that didn't work. Just let me know please 🙏

Pulled the wire and got spark. Does a problem with the wire mean I need to replace the whole thing?

Going through this on my 2002 harley 883 . Both plugs get spark so go after the on/off switch next?

Ummm. My kill switch wire is not there. There is nothing that it would connect to or anything. Its an old engine so maybe thats it.

Actually you should hold the wire with your finger inside a bucket of water while someone turns the key over to start the car
