Perhaps the greatest character introduction in the history of television.

I think this was the defining moment in the first episode of the West Wing because all the characters were together for the first time.

The fact that I have been watching this show (repeatedly) for the better part of 2 decades and only a few years ago realised all the parallels to President Bartlet and god in this episode is beyond me.
I mean they literally look UP to a booming voice off screen saying "I am the Lord your God".
HOW IN THE HELL DID I MISS THAT?!?>!!!

Once I saw this great scene in the pilot episode, I knew it would be an amazing show.

Josh’s flex at the end is my favourite part I think

That's how you introduce a character! I saw this when it aired and was blown away as Bartlett made his entrance, speaking in a booming voice. "I am the Lord your God." The fist episode was incredible and laid the foundation for this spectacular series.

I want my president, our president to be just that moral and seek righteousness.

This show was great from the beginning.

Setting the stage for the MS storyline right from the opening! Yeah this scene made me want to watch the next episode. It was Bartlet talking to sailor on the doomed USS Hickory, that made me watch the show for as long as it ran!

The Religious Right may have wanted to teach the White House a lesson, but the President is the one who took that group to school 😂 😎

One of the best parts of this is that even Mary Marsh and John Van Dyke were embarrassed by the announcement of what Annie had received. It would have been easy for the show to make a different choice. Brilliant writing, directing, and acting

I had a supervisor who used that "New York sensibility' during my first annual review as a way of saying Jewish.
The fifth Commandment is to 'Honor Thy Father & Mother'.

So many times watching these clips we find ourselves wishing we could have a POTUS and his team in the White House who have integrity and want to do a good job for the American people. Currently we have Putin's puppet and a team of millionaires who care only about wealth and power. Kinda screwed at the moment but hoping for a better future.,

Season 1, Episode 1
Damn, he started out so strong. That line was almost terrifying. Alas, somewhere along the way, he got so soft. They tried to make him strong again but they never really got there. Still, it's one of the top three shows in television history for making you smarter about how the real world works.

Honor your parents is the 5th commandment.

I always thought it was weird that the guy got the first commandment wrong. I get that it's necessary for the setup but seems very weird.

After this Martin Sheen performance, they changed the whole show to include the President, he was originally going to be a peripheral figure
which upset Rob Lowe, who sadly left the show, Sam was a wonderful character

Actually, it's the fifth commandment.
