One excuse for the console makers is that having more hardware options means more work to optimise the software for it, but I think they simply don't want to.
You are right, having a console which can do more than gaming and be upgraded will be a killer device.

Let me clarify something. A console is a PC which cannot be upgraded. And then also we have prebuilts PCs which come in excellent deals, both for gaming and non gaming. Some prebuilts are very difficult to upgrade and are in very small form factor, and other have lots of room for future upgradability, and some are in between the two. And then if you really want to push limits of upgrading your gaming device, then its a normal PC like i have which i bought in every single part by part and then assembled it, regarding OS, we can have an OS developed by some company like Origin or Steam etc which only runs games. But so many Operating systems will again cause issues for developers to optimize games for it.
In simple words, what your are saying is almost available already.

No matter how consoles get I never see myself getting rid of my PC. There just something about holding a 600 dollar GPU in your hand that consoles just don't give you!

the main reason I use a PC for gaming is MODDING, playing Left For Dead 2 as velociraptors was my turning point back in the day! Now I use a top end custom built HTPC and use an xbox controller to play chill games in my living room, and also run the vive i7-8700k & a gtx1080ti all stuffed in a mini itx fractal node 304 case

I like having my PC mainly for work and playing games is a bonus as I already have a PS4.

Well, you can easily have the comfort of your living room, sitting on the couch and playing your games at 60 fps, native 4k, ultra settings, streaming your videos, watching movies, doing your work, playing with wireless keyboard/mouse and have the absolute freedom! YOU JUST BUILD A FREAKIN' MINI ITX BULD almost at the size of a console, and you can throw inside a gtx 1080ti, watercooling, a super fast SSD, WHATEVER you want, and make it look dope! Phanteks - ENTHOO EVOLV SHIFT is a good example and a true work of art!

You're looking at this wrong. All a console is for the most part is a fancy all-in-one PC that sometimes has its own unique operating system and is generally limited to use a controller and not a mouse and keyboard.

Replace PC with another PC. I think that's what your saying. But it would be a lower price pc/console. Building the pc is half the fun and gives one pride and a sense of accomplishment. I love your videos, keep up the good work. Gene
