My first home was built in 1952, had the original windows, no AC and was on a very busy road. I hated the noise and it was always too hot or too cold. We made the decision to replace the windows after a heat wave where it reached 114°. I never thought about if they would pay for themselves or not. The improvement to the quality of our lives was worth every penny! I would put window replacement on the top of my list of most satisfying home improvement projects.

We just had our windows replaced last week. Our house is already warmer than it has ever been at this time of year. I believe our utility bill will be reduced this year.

Thanks Jeff. Always appreciate your videos. My #1 reason for wanting energy-efficient windows is to keep the cold out so we feel comfortable. We don't have a big place. A small townhouse. I didn't have a good experience with my last windows purchase. I researched the top efficient windows closest to me and I purchased the 2nd one from the top in a casement with the best glass and argon, etc the works. I spent 6k for 2 windows installed which I thought was kind of steep. They looked beautiful. I purchased them in May of last year. For heat, I was happy with them, but as soon as the cold weather came in, I was unpleasantly surprised. I was feeling cold. Colder than my 17 year old windows I replaced! I was thinking maybe it was the installation. I called the company. They came and put a bandaid on it. After that it was still cold. So I decided to pay a different company to reinstall the window and spray the inside of the frame with filler for windows. I thought that would di it. Nope. After trying everything I could. I narrowed the draft down to the glass itself. I was feeling the draft right where the glass meets the frame. I ended up putting plastic film around the window trim on new windows! These were double glass extra thick glass. Supposed u factor was .19. on paper. and .02 air filtration rating. I feel that it was a scam. Either they sold me a counterfeit window or the window just sucks and the claims are false. The window is Ideal 3000 series. Vinyl window. So that was my experience. I don't know what to make of it. I tried the windows experts site before this purchase but there weren't any of those companies near where I live. So Jeff is it possible that a highly rated window could let air in thru the glass or did they sell me a fake?

Jeff, you forgot something....There's no price on the quality work and customer service you provide. That adds up quickly on your ROI.

So, my question is how energy efficient are the windows you showed us last time, that were designed for reducing sound transmission? What about the STC window? Is that also energy efficient?

Custom building a home in San Jacinto county between Huntsville and Livingston, is that too far out? Also, what is lead time on windows these days? I am debating on ordering when I break ground versus ordering post frame (actually planning to use Omniblock). Also standard sizes is mason block multiples going to be an issue 8x8x16?

And what about Hurricane and tornado resistance? For the sound treatment windows? For the energy efficient windows?
