How to Protect Children from Kidnappers

It's every parent's worst nightmare. Make sure you and your kids are street savvy by reviewing these precautions.

Step 1: Don't advertise their name
Don't let your children wear or carry anything that has their name on it. Child predators sometimes use this information to trick children into thinking that they know them.

Step 2: Don't restrict warning to strangers
Don't just warn children about talking to strangers; abductors may befriend a child in anticipation of snatching them, so tell your children not to go off with anyone except their adult relatives. Teach them to yell, "This is not my parent!" Otherwise, bystanders may mistake an attempted abduction for a parent-child spat.

Tip
Have a family code word and teach children not to go with anyone who doesn't know it.

Step 3: Prepare them for an abduction attempt
Teach your children that if anyone tries to grab them, they should make a scene, even if they are threatened. Tell them to scream as loud as they can and fight back with all their might.

Tip
Teach children to "yell if you're told not to yell; tell if you're told not to tell."

Step 4: Make their shoes distinctive
Make their shoes distinctive. Kidnappers may change a child's clothes and cut or dye their hair, but they rarely think to replace their shoes. Also, always know what your children are wearing when they leave the house and be up to date on their height and weight.

Step 5: Warn about adults needing help
Warn children to run away from strangers who ask for their help. This is a common ploy abductors use to get a child to go somewhere with them.

Step 6: Carry current photos
Keep a current photo of your children on you. It will save precious time if the worst happens and your child is abducted.

Did You Know?
A study of attempted child abductions found that in 84 percent of the cases, the child escaped thanks to their own actions, with 35 percent actively resisting and 49 percent running away.

Here is another good tip: If your child walks to school on a regular basis, try to find them a friend that they can walk to school with. A group is stronger than just one child.

Even if it’s a older family relative they can still try and kidnap you, there has been many cases like that. So if one of your relatives that you don’t trust try’s to get you to go with them ask your parents. And don’t go with anyone even if they say they know your parents! Stay safe.

To any parents watching this, I would also suggesting having the child take martial art classes. Any class will do, as most of them teach tactics on how to get help in case of this emergency. The instructors should be able to tell the parent more about what they can do to prevent this. Only one thing, don't BUY ranks for them. Some dojos let the students buy ranks such as black belt. This only ups the child's courage, and makes them think they can defeat the guy rather than just getting away

Step 1: Tell the child to do whatever it takes to prevent an abduction. I read about a 10 year old boy who scared an abductor away simply by flipping him off and kicking his ass. Bear in mind, the kid was wearing constructor's shoes with metal protector cap in the front.

lil story time:
So I was walking back home from where my bus stops ( there are usually families and I know a lot of really nice people there). So I'm walking and I see these two guys (mid twenties probably) and I, a cautious person try to ignore them ( I'm paranoid about everyone being a kidnapper) and I hear one of them say "this kid looks alright" to his friend and I run for my life down the hill down the street to my house. I was ShOoK. Nothing like this happens around my area and I still walk alone. Haven't seen the pair since. Stay safe my fellow pre teens and listen to this video💗

If you take martial arts, they teach you ways to at least slow them down or distract/blind them enough for you to get attention and a good head start. A very small, 2 second head start gives you that much more time to gain attention and help.
