7 Ways to Protect Kids from Sexual Abuse | AAP

Child sexual abuse is more common than you might think. But there are simple ways parents can protect their children and reduce the likelihood that they will be abused. It's called body autonomy, and it starts with a conversation. Dr. Shalon Nienow, a board certified child abuse pediatrician and member of the AAP Council on Child Abuse and Neglect Executive Committee, explains seven tips all parents should know about how to keep their kids safe from child sexual abuse.

Number 7 I disagree with. There are corrupt doctors, police officers, teachers and parents too. Children are in far more danger from being sexually abused by people they are told to trust, than some random stranger.

Thank you. 50 years ago for me - i remember most of it, and parts are hazy, but my power and my voicevwas taken away that day. At 5 i didnt know what these twin 10 year old girls were telling me about sex, and then they minded the door against my mum coming into my own room. As i grew up i started hating this aspect of my parents- always under reacting to abuses or complains I would express to them.
I grew up hating my body for a long time and feeling helpless. Abuse started long back i guess i was 3 or 4 even after my parents knew and saw they didnt do anything.

Now that i have my daughter i have been extremely protective, sometimes over protective and filled with rage if someone does something that is against her will or without parents permission. When i delved into understand where the rage was coming from because in general im not such an angry person, i understood its linked to my
past. Im trying to be the protector for my daughter i wish i had

Not all sexual abuse feels icky. At times it may feel pleasurable and because of that they may feel less inclined to tell a trusted adult about what happened to them.

BS, I'm a retied psychiatrist and CSA survivor. Preadolescent children experience crippling shame and guilt when abused and are simply unable/unwilling to tell anyone what happened. Then, we all too often carry the symptoms of CPTSD for the rest of our lives. Bottom line: do not have a child that you cannot protect from predators. My father acted as though he'd just as soon see me dead and my naive mother unknowingly sent me off for summer vacations as an 8-10 yo under the care (!) of my pedophile "Uncle Hank", who sexually abused me. Through all the therapy and psychiatric training, no-one ever asked about childhood abuse.

#1 I have a problem with. No, it is not okay just because a parent is present, especially the parent who also molested the child. It is not okay in the absence of a real reason and the consent of the body owner. Also, in the USA boys are far more likely than 1 in 20 to be molested. Pediatricians are among the guilty ones. They knife rape male newborns and perform many unnecessary intimate exams thereafter. Spurious medical excuses protect the guilty party, not the victims. I have extremely deep contempt for the lowlife who mutilated me. Also, later when I was a child I was forced to lie completely naked on an exam table for a long time by my childhood pedophilotrician while he had a field day with my body. This was after the prior visit, when he was dragging me around by the arm, yelling at me, and threatening me, and otherwise not communicating with me. Where is the peer-reviewed evidence that the exam will fail without that? Probably in the same apocryphal vault with the evidence for inguinal hernia exams with pre-participation physicals for sports? Nonetheless, good points in this piece.

I told my mom how he treated me outside like normally but not ok.
I didn’t tell her what happened more deeper

She shouted and scrolled me for talking to a man and not telling to her at first. I was really afraid and didn’t tell it to anyone.

That sense on that day still appearing in front of my eyes for weeks. Even at the time I’m in the exam room. I got low marks on the test too cuz I couldn’t concentrate. 😢😢

The house directly behind mine ( has a porch in the back yard on the ground back there (I have a feeling something is under the wooden porch, because I have seen very, very disturbing this over ther from in side my house) they also do drugs and drink, theres child trafficking going on there.
