There is solution, build small over bridge

Just putting this out there as a Paramedic, turning our lights off doesn't mean someone died. If we're going to be stuck at one point for longer than usually one minute or over (depending on local protocol, gotta love that phrase), we turn the lights and sirens off, sirens to not hurt anyone's ears, both of them to prevent any confusion or distractions for traffic around us, and this one is super dependent on the ambulance type but if it's an older model there's also the possibility that leaving the lights on for extended durations can drain the battery voltage faster and cause issues with the box and equipment.

Also, if the patient codes before we're there we don't just stop and go "Well damn, we'll get em next time", we're highly trained in CPR and cardiac arrest management for a reason guys🤣. Even if the patient did "die" We're still going lights and sirens to them lol

My brother is an emt. And as many others have pointed out. It usually means there's another ambulance taking the call. Also Emts and Paramedics can't declare a patient dead. Only a doctor can. So if a patient flatlines in ambulance they'll continue to do CPR until they reach the hospital so a doctor can declare the victim dead. The only exception is if they arrive to the scene of an already pulseless victim.

Not true. 90% of the time they turn their lights off because they’re sending a different unit to the scene

EMT here. No, lights usually get turned off because another unit, that will likely get there faster, took the call. 🤙

Correction: When the lights is turned off, it means that another ambulance has reached the patient.

“So how did you die?”

“Well I was in a ambulance, legit holding on to my life, I was about to get to the hospital, and then Thomas the Tank Engine decided to be a dick and block the damn road at a railroad crossing with a train that lasted damn near 6 minutes before the railroad crossing was cleared, but about half way through that, I died”

“Damn that’s tragic af”

This is somewhat true. So when an ambulance’s lights go of before they get to their destination, it usually means another ambulance has gotten to the injured.

Actually when an ambulance turns off their lights at a “soul train, ” it sometimes means another ambulance is responding to the call

The lights would not be turned off if the patient passed in the vehicle. We would continue to transport, once code 3 has been initiated we do not call it off until we reach the hospital.

Now if we could not reach our patient, what you may be referring to is: we contacted dispatch to see if another unit was able to reach the patient before our ambulance due to the train. If so, then we would shut down our lights/siren and another ambulance unit would take our call.

When an ambulance turns off it's lights, it can also mean that another ambulance has been called to respond instead of the one that got held up by a train...

Edit: Assuming making a bridge for the train to use isn't viable, why not make a bridge or tunnel for the vehicles to go over/under the train? Seems like a solid solution to me. Expensive, yes, but tax dollars exist for a reason, to go towards important things like this; even a single bridge would make a world of difference.

Or when they turn their lights off there maybe another crew that got on scene and is handling the call
