Thank you for sharing a wonderful "beginner's guide"/review. You stated many concepts in the novel that I've rarely seen in reviews. I would also recommend for any Dune newcomers that they get a bit familiar with the appendix (I through IV) and the 20 pages (or so, depending upon book and print size) of the glossary of Imperium terminology before starting the novel. I'm pretty sure people will need to refer to these from time to time, while reading the first part of the novel. I know I did on my first reading.
