•Their toes can get stuck in the ventilation slits, breaking them.
•They don't have enough ventilation.
•The hamster can't stop the ball, and it can crash into walls, hurting them.
•Hamster balls cause disorientation and stress.
•Most hamster balls are too small.
•Hamster balls can cause infections from urine and faeces build up.
•They trap heat.
There are many other reasons, but these are the main problems!
•The lids can fall off easily, making it easy for them to escape and get lost!

I'd like to add that a lot have quite bad lids which fall off easily so the area which the ball is allowed to be free roamed it would need to be hamster proofed anyways so that defeats much of the point of a ball & the balls have limited ventilation.

I am 14 and I have a proper care cage and accessories and the necessities, food, bedding, wheel, hideout and I only have one hamster ball and only use it so my hamster can be in a different room while my parents clean the cage and it is one only in a while thing which is every 2 or 3 weeks.

Could we possibly turn the play area into a big play cage? Because we have a small dog and if I do get a play area we may have to lock him in another room, he can escape from them 💀

I do not mean this in any hate at all but I would just like to mention that you can also use a dry bathtub. It’s a cheaper alternative and if your hamster is the type that will try to bite through the playpen (like mine) then you won’t have to worry about that anymore!
