The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N won CAR magazine’s first ever electric sports car giant test, but can it see off competition from what is probably Tesla’s best-handling car – the Model 3 Performance? CAR magazine’s James Dennison finds out.

I took delivery of my 5N last week and it's SUPERB! Love it.

First, the 5 N is the only EV I'll consider. Look at what can happen when engineers are let off the leash. Second, really and truly this should be compared to Model Y Performance, not the 3. Fair play, to the Hyundai anyway as it won the day. Third, it is heavy, but we're in an age where the Audi RS6 Avant and the upcoming BMW M5 Touring weigh nearly as much or more than the 5 N.

5N is the only electric car it would have considered. Waiting to see what Porsche can do with the 718 Electric Cayman and what BMW does with the electric M3.

Now I’d see a comparison of an Ioniq5N to a new BMW M5 Wagon.

M5 will be a powerful and more luxurious experience. 5N will be just as quick with more instant torque for less than half the price.

Owning a 5N now for 3000 miles, it’s a rocket when you want and relaxed when you don’t.

Test drove the 5N and it was incredible - it’s so fun, the gear shifting is like playing Grand Turismo - arguably more fun than a real gearshift, as you can’t break anything if you mess it up. The Tesla is so dull by comparison.

Wasn’t a competition. I got the I5N in April. It’s my daily and I am still loving it!

Fam, dogs, … fits our life better than the model 3 or Y. Especially coming from two previous decades of sports cars.

Had my N for a week. Performance blue. Fabulous. Love it so far. I had a launch Project 45 Ioniq for 3 years. Like the looks. And think the N really improves it. The gears are just “mad”. Such fun. I understand why someone would buy the M3P, but do prefer the N.
