Mercedes-AMG GT v Hyundai IONIQ 5 N: DRAG RACE

The all-new Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is BACK, and this time it’s taking on the almighty AMG GT!

So how do the two compare? Well starting with the Hyundai, it’s powered by two electric motors which combine to produce an incredible 650hp and 740Nm of torque. Given the two motors it comes with four-wheel drive, but the large battery adds to the weight, meaning it tips the scales at 2,235kg! However, all that power comes relatively cheap, with the IONIQ 5 N starting from £65,000.

Then we come to the AMG. It’s powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can produce 585hp and 800Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox, and it comes in a bit lighter than the IONIQ, weighing in at 2,130kg. However, it is SO much more expensive than the Hyundai, costing around £165,000!

I don’t get why so many are hating on the Hyundai. I’m petrol power all the way, and hate the thought of one day having to drive an EV, but this thing makes electric as fun as possible, and just beat a merc that costs a hundred grand more! A hundred grand! The level of performance for the price is what people seem to forget.
