yea and when the British Empire failed, the British made sure that their former colonies would suffer and not develop by planting future conflicts in these places, thats why India and Pakistan are constantly at war and Hong Kong despite being one of the wealthiest places on earth is constantly under political turmoil.

I live in pakistan and I travelled on the karakoram highway all the way to the Chinese border and it was the best trip ever even better than europe

Edit: Its been a while since I looked at this (10 months) and the replies are disappointing. It really shows the divides between both countries and I dont understand why any of this was necessary in the first place but whatever.

FAQ:

Q. Is it Safe?

Yes, and there are alot of sights to see, just make sure to go with someone you know and dont be too adventurous.

Q. How much does it cost?

Cant be exact, it depends on what hotel you stay at and the petrol rates or pricing of tickets. However i believe since it is Pakistan it is extremely cheap if you are from another country or are well off.

Q. Do I care whether its Indian, Kashmiri, pakistani, or whatever land?

No, stop asking I dont care. I just know it's a beautiful place and deserves more foreign attention.

Q. Is it accessible?

Yes, unlike Azad Kashmir(Pakistan) it is much more accessible to foreign tourists as it is a province within the country unlike azad kashmir which is not as accessible to foreigners.

Q. Should you visit?

Definitely, ignore politics and enjoy the views. The People are amazing and the landscape is beautiful.

Q. What places are worth visiting?

Hunza Valley, amazing people, well educated and over hospitable. Gilgit city, nice hotels with great water(idk I just liked the shower water there, its cleaner than down south) also alot of souveniers to buy. Lake Saif ul Maluk, beautiful blue waters. And finally Kunjerab pass, the furthest you can go and the place with the worlds highest ATM machine.

That's all, have a nice day and please visit Pakistan. Theres much to see. And again ignore the shitty politics.

I did that highway about 10 years ago. Would be a CRAZY long drive from the China heartland, through Xinxang Province, Kashgar, Tashkurgan, across the Karakoram Highway and south through Pakistan to the sea. Might as well put product on a boat in Tianjin, Shanghai or Hong Kong. Cool trip into Northern Pakistan. K-2 via Skardu is a wild side trip.

In Pakistan The Attabad lake is called " A beautiful Disaster ".
But it is so painful for the people who lost their houses. The water is freezing cold but if you do dive in you'll see many houses under water.
A film "Chalay thay Sath " was made on this incident.
