How exactly would woolly mammoths help preserve the permafrost? I’m not sure there’s significant value in bringing them back—aside from the fact that they were truly amazing creatures. But will they even survive in today’s much hotter environment? Instead of hoping something else will save us, humans should take real accountability. We already know the main problem: it’s us. If we know fossil fuels are the reason our planet is heating up, then why can’t we just stop?

It’s not about waiting for a miracle—it’s about making the right choices now. Switching to renewable energy quickly is far more effective than bringing a woolly mammoth back to life only to let it suffer in the climate we’ve damaged. Yes, it’s a great scientific breakthrough to genetically modify genomes—but the idea that mammoths will somehow fix the permafrost is asking too much of these beautiful creatures.

In the end, it’s on us. Even if we successfully revive the mammoth and they manage to survive, if we continue burning fossil fuels, Earth will keep getting hotter. That’s just the fact
