I believe it is still common to use the year as only 2 digits, where the century is implied so 7/6/95 being either the 7th of June 1995 or 2095 dependant upon context, i.e.. it happened in '95 or it will happen in '95, for instance I would not normally expect someone to give the century when stating their date of birth, years in University etc..

Two remarks:
1. In the US, the date format is normally mm/dd/YYYY, so 9/11/2001 would be interpreted as the eleventh of September 2001. (Btw, the international standard ISO 8601 formats dates as yyyy-mm-dd, which I personally, as a computer scientist, consider most unambiguous and satisfying.)
2. Nowadays, “CE” (= “Common Era”) is often used instead of “AD”, and “BC” is reinterpreted as “Before Common Era”, sometimes also abbreviated as “BCE”. One reasoning behind this is to avoid religious connotations.

Are you saying "the 20th of February 2024" is wrong?
