As a reading teacher I endorse this. Include phonemic awareness as well parents.

My daughter two weeks ago read her first Word by herself (on the paper), without encouraging. She is 27 months. I'm so proud.

As an ESL teacher, step 1 - learn the letter sounds.

Parents and caregivers SHOULD be actively involved in their children's education like this and teach them things like reading, writing, spelling & math at their level, before they even start school. They will be better for it.
Props to this guy. 👏🏻👏🏻

Oh yes, big YES. Montessori teacher here. Proud that I taught 100s of children to read starting with phonemic awareness and then phonics. Comprehension fostered by story, acting out stories, poems, songs, finger plays, nomenclature ( vocabulary naming items in a category precisely), conversation, read alouds in fiction and non-fiction, asking text specific and open-ended questions. Our students were competent and voracious readers! Phonics works!

According to my mum, this was actually how I learned to read. My parents would show me product brands (nothing fancy, like your usual soap, shampoo, milk, flour, etc.) while reading them out loud. They'd do this constantly, but never rushed since I was only 3 (people I know would expect their kids to start learning the letters at the age of 4-6). I guess language and literature has always been my strong suit, because by the age of 4, I already started reading comics (nothing complex, just kids comics (like Abby by Paige Walshe), but considering how sentences, speech bubbles, and comic panels work, even I don't know how I figured those out at that age) 😅

One important note, my native language is indonesian which is actually much simpler than English (product brands included), so it definitely held a big part in my learning journey.

Yes! Learning through phonetics instead of sight reading, creates stronger readers and sets a good foundation for literary and language skills that will benefit them their whole lives. Great job!!!

Im 52 and i rem3mber the good ole days when parents taught their children to read and the syllables that blend the letters together to form a word and its individual sounds ? So thank you for teaching your child sadly many parents cant read themselves and therefore their children have suffered with literacy in our country .Now with everything being done by AI illiteracy is even more previlent than ever in our communities. Its Makes my heart fill with hope that this generation will not effect the next and change is gonna come ? God Bless your family and its so wonderful to see that education is important in your family as it is in mine .😊❤

Taught English in Japan for 4 years and made my own phonics program. Pretty much the only person actually teaching phonics.

And before that make sure they can rhyme and hear th different sounds in words. Phonemic awareness is SO important!

Parents should always be their child first and forever teacher.

You need to do both. Some kids can’t sound out words, while other kids can’t remember the sight words.

It really sucks that we all used to learn phonics in school and now it's gone 😭 kids deserve to understand the "theory" behind their language
