There are the 3 types of Furniture Leather.
1. Bonded Leather
2. Split Grain Leather
3. Top Grain Leather

What is Bonded Leather: Bonded leather looks just like Leather, Still has the ease of cleaning and the best part of bonded leather is the price. This is how you get the leather look at a very affordable price. Because this is leather that is glued to vinyl it does not breath as well. You will stick to bonded leather more than other leathers and it could begin to peal over time.

What is Split Grain Leather: Spit Grain leather is used many times in combination with Top Grain Leather. It is placed on the sides and backs of your sofa because it is not as high a quality leather as Top Grain but most people would never notice because it is usually put on your furniture in places that are not normally touched. This allows furniture companies to put higher grain leathers on the heavily used and touched areas and put a little lower quality (Split Grain Leather) on the sides and back to save on the price but still get the high end leather look. Split Grain leather is a nicer quality of leather than Bonded leather but not to the level of Top Grain Leather.

What is Top Grain Leather: Top Grain Leather is the best quality for a couple reasons. The dye and texture are the two main components. Looking at leather samples you need to look at both the back and the front. If the dye goes all the way through then the leather has full aniline dye and the coloring is true. If the leather is scratched you will not see a different color.
Texture: Oil look and natural look. Oil look is a manufactured look where as the natural look is exactly that. Natural. Top Grain Leather is found in the higher price points of leather and the less a manufacture does to leather the greater the price will be. That means if you want that pure natural leather with imperfections then you will pay the premium price.

I wonder why the Stressless Cori Caramel color is light on the back? All the other colors in the grade have the the colored backs.

Not correct. The top grain is the very top with the hair removed and shows imperfections on the natural hide and is the most prized. Split leather is the 2nd and 3rd layers that are more flexible but can tear easier and lacks a natural sheen and is treated to make it more durable. Bonded leather is made from scraps and shavings from the bottom split mixed with man made fibers and glues and then glued to vynle. That "split leather sofa" you referred to is actually split leather (not top grain leather" on the seats, backs, and arm rests but is bonded leather or vinyl on the backs and sides.

I prefer leather because of the cleaning factor.

cant even buy full top grain leather in my town, but I wont buy it if it has any split or fake vinyl crap anywhere on it, had to spent 7 grand out of town just to find a decent sofa that will hopefully last longer than that fake junk they make most furniture with now days

That is not a true statement about the that Ekornes swatch leather dyed all the way through, means it is a full aniline. Full aniline dyed does not mean that. Most quality upholstery leathers are dyed initially with aniline dyes in vats or drums. The word " Aniline dyed" means a natural dyed leather with out the presence of pigments or top coats...just a stained leather. Those Ekornes swatches you are showing are a pigment or semi aniline leather, not a full aniline or pure aniline. Bonded is not leather in any way, it was used as a backing for vinyl which is a plastic. You rarely get three cuts from a hide depth wise so the explanation about where bonded comes from is not correct, except it is ground up leather and bonds with a glue and a artificial substrate. Your explanation for pebbled finish and oiled is bizarre, not sure what you are talking about there.

Bonded leather will be peeling off in about 5 years.
