I was 17 years old when this song was released. My father was in his final weeks of a 4 year battle with terminal cancer. This song just spoke to me at a time when i needed something to help me deal with losing my best mate and hero. 30 years later i still have a tear or two when I hear this song. Masterpiece And saviour for a young me!!

This song is a masterpiece. My favorite song of all time. I was 16 years-old when I first heard it and just fell in love with it and it's taken me nearly 30 years to truly understand the lyrics ("...leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground...to a life consumed by slow decay", "...looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us...to a glimpse of how green it was on the other side") . I now have a 16 year-old son myself. He recently heard me listening to the song and said, "Who's that? It's really good." I sat down with him and told him how much the song meant to me and told him to listen to it again 30 years later to see if the meaning of the song grows over time for him too. I can only hope he'll be telling my grandkids years from now how much the song means to him...and his dad.

So I have lived and breathed guitar music for a lifetime, really, and few have influenced me as much as him. When Jeff Beck died, I literally wept. When David's time is up, the world will have lost one of its most important lights. It will forever be a darker place. And I will be inconsolable.
