He’s not an idiot, he just doesn’t care about movements outside of the gym like you do.

this is like saying “why do swimmers swim?” because it doesn’t translate well to sports on dry land

Sumo squats, and deadlifts a good for jujitsu, because it trains the muscles of the hips that are commonly used in the sport

I mean I sorta have to squat sumo because of my anatomy, if I try to squat too narrow my chest will end up facing the ground and I’ll have to use a lot of lower back to extend myself back up

YOUR FUCKING POWER LIFTING, ITS WHAT THEY DO, THEY DO NOT GIVE TWO SHITS ABOUT HOW IT TRANSLATES OUTSIDE THE GYM

To be fair, sumo squats could be solid for cage wrestling in MMA.

I'm with Mario sometimes, but you gotta remember that there are exception to the rule, because of anatomy. Even if you want to squat in shoulder width, if your hips are attached differently than most people, your gonna have to have a wide stance squat, probably not sumo, but it depends in the person's anatomy.
Yeah, you can improve your mobility to have even more narrow stance with ankle mobility. But it won't affect much if your hips are just too deep and can't even get to parallel if you don't open them as wide as you can because of your anatomy.

as a person who has worked in a farm, and had to carry very heavy things, calmly bless your heart. if it works it works, stop acting like a toddler with no binky because he does something different than you

It's almost like powerlifters are supposed to squat the heaviest weight possible.

You couldn't have possibly thought that people would agree with you. So here is the engagement, I squat with a wide stance to be able to hit depth. This looked like a good squat, and a long, stable pause at the bottom. I need you to send this to my family, cause they do not understand that powerlifting doesn't translate to lifting heavy things.

Not everything you do in the gym has to transfer out the gym

A wide base squat is entirely different than a sumo squat. Some people aren't comfortable with a standard squat stance and are quad dominant.

This slight change incorporates the glutes and hamstrings more at the bottom of the lift.

A real sumo squat is done with a kettlebell or dumbbell, not a barbell, and is amazing for glute activation.
