You may find it amusing that when the Japanese came to the andamans they did similar atrocities here. My grandparents have faced them. They used to punish the Indians made them eat monitor lizards, snakes and what not. These stories are well known with the people of Andamans.

He missed out on mentioning Korea that came under Japanese imperialism. The amount of war crimes and atrocities they faced is horrendous. I recommend reading about comfort women, a stake in Korea's heart, for which btw Japanese haven't apologised/ given reparations till date.

Wow, I finally found that gem. This is refreshing after being bombarded with the same type of podcasts with very limited options to choose from the same boring pop culture discussions is all you find living here in the 🇺🇸 states. This is exactly the conversations I am highly interested. Fantastic intellectual podcasts guys!

Avijit Chavra should know that the British supported Japan in the Meiji transformation and Japan tried to be like the British. That is the reason during the Meiji period the Buddhist temples and libraries were destroyed as advised by the British.

The main reason for Hitler to stop the bombardment of London and other cities was that the British air force was too strong to overcome in their own zone.many fighter aircrafts were destroyed in order to capture britain and hitler thought that it would be much better for them to pay attention to the resourceful USSR that he thought was not as strong as britain.

Even the samurai culture is derived from kshatriya dharma code. It's just it reached Japanese Island in a very crude form hence the samurai culture was pretty pretty strict but main things remained common. Ethics, moral, respect, honour, chivalry while fighting, training youth to have judicial abilities to differentiate between right and wrong and sacrifice oneself from the battle the moment some one goes ronin. Not barbaric plunderers like Arabs, central Asians. Bhooke Nange ki tarah ladhte the....

This man is on god mode. Much respect he just broke down the entire ww2 history the best a human can in 5 min. 👏. As an amateur historian that has studied we2 for 10 years…credit is due. Yes the 🇷🇺’s won that fair and square. 🇩🇪 lost because they tackled 2 fronts. Hitler wasnt even that good of a general. He should’ve taken advantage of Dunkirk and if he never did what he did to the Jews, he wouldve went down as a legend. Also I try to bring it up every time theres a discussion on ww2…look into the serbian genocide by the croatians…watch a movie called ”Dara of Jasenovac”…if you dont know that part of the holocaust which a lot do not…get informed…its the saddest canp

Chavdaji got a few things Shogun was like the military PM who ruled Japan in the Emperor's name. Samurai Warlords were called Daimyo and not Shogun.
Many Samurai hated Buddhism and were not all Buddhist.
Especially during the Sengoku period, Buddhist monks were militarily active in Japan.
They have always had a violent history due to actions of their warrior class. Hiroshima and Nagasaki brought them to their senses
Otherwise great content as usual

Japan wanted to achieve what West accomplished, but fast. In Europe countries were more or less similar in power, economically or technologically. However in the East when Japan achieved industrialization, others were far backward, offering less resistance to Japan in its action.

The Showa Restoration marked by the 26th February incident was a turning point in Japanese history, as Japan advanced towards modernization, the Emperor became a mere puppet at the hands of the 'daibatsu' who were an elite class of capitalists and military officials who wanted to establish a military junta and held ambitions far more than they were capable of. Fortunately a few young officers of the Japanese Military who were fiercely loyal to the Emperor, saw right through their ambitions and attempted a coup to restore the Emperor as the absolute authority in the country and execute the Daibatsu for their crimes.
They mustered about 1 million soldiers to their righteous cause and had nearly succeeded, until Emperor Hirohito- the one whom they had greatly revered, rebuked their loyalty and ordered them to lay down their arms. Those honorable men did as the Emperor commanded them, though they wielded the power to imprison him and act as his reagents. They were tried and executed. After their deaths, corrupt officials like Prime Minister Hideki Tojo took power from the Emperor, under the pretext of another preventing another such coup, and went on to commit horrific war crimes in China, South korea, Southern Asia and blunders like the Pearl harbor, which eventually led to Japan's defeat and the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.
Had those Officers succeeded in restoring the Emperor's prestige and authority, and curbed the ambitions of men like Tojo, Japan wouldn't have had to suffer as it did. Emperor Hirohito later commemorated them in his memoir which was released in 2019.
They thought about Japan from the bottom of their hearts, may their souls rest peacefully and watch over their now prospering nation.
