I use to clean houses when my son was kindergarten. I worked independently because when you work for a company they give you chump change and your co workers will steal your tips. Even working independently is difficult, it can be physically and emotionally hard. You get treated lower than dirt by some people. People don't want to pay sometimes, people want you to make their house look brand new when they haven't cleaned in years, men will make you uncomfortable, and then you have to go home count your pennies and hope to god you can pay your bills and take care of your baby.

I worked for a cleaning company in the 90s...we used to clean a gym on the upper east side, it was unspeakable filthy. I mean every bodily function possible would cover something. it was awful pay and most places had to be cleaned at night. Going from Manhattan to New Jersey every morning bout 3am. Sometime I would bring my 2year old son while his mom did a double shift. Those were rough days. Im not doing badly now...still work 60hrs a week for low wages..but I'm not cleaning shit.

Is it okay for me to be angry at this movie portrayal? As someone who grew up with domestic abuse no one came to rescue and emotionally nurture me after I witnessed abuse. They were too self absorbed in their own pain. I assume this is common. Also, eventually the children will he targetted with abuse. So good for Alex for protecting Maddie and leaving. But this is not the norm. Most stay because they feel hopeless and don't see a way out. This show just seems so hollywood. The reality is even more grim than what is portrayed.
