CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Danny (Charles Bronson) grows claustrophobic underground and aborts his place in line to escape.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Great Escape is based on the true story of a group of Allied prisoners of war who managed to escape from an allegedly impenetrable Nazi prison camp during World War II. At the beginning of the film, the Nazis gather all their most devious and troublesome POWs and place them at a new prison camp, which was designed to be impervious to escapes. Immediately, the prisoners develop a scheme where they will leave the camp by building three separate escape tunnels. Richard Attenborough is the British soldier who masterminds the whole plan, and who commands his motley squad--featuring Charles Bronson as a Polish trench-digging expert, James Garner as an American with a talent for theft, Donald Pleasence as a masterful forger, and Steve McQueen as an American rebel--through the construction of the tunnels and, eventually, their escape. An epic adventure film, The Great Escape runs nearly three hours, featuring a rousing Elmer Bernstein score and exciting action sequences -- including a notorious motorcycle chase between McQueen and the Nazis -- the likes of which had never been seen before in Hollywood productions.

Bronson really sold this .... I'm claustrophobic too.... It's exactly like how Bronson acted ( He is claustrophobic in real life so I guess it's experience). The initial stage is trying to get away, sweating and politely trying to ask people to give way. The next stage is actually violent where you are all worked up and start shoving and punching people to get away. Once you are away you tend to move to a place where there are no people.

The German characters were cast from actors out of Munich, including Hannes Messemer and Til Kiwe. Both had their own prisoner of war experiences. Messemer had been captured on the Eastern front by the Soviet army, escaped, and walked hundreds of miles to the German border. Frick served time in an American prison camp in Arizona. He tried to escape seventeen times

there was some poetic justice in that the diggers were 2 out of the 3 prisoners that finally escaped.

Really, it had to be a suffocating experience, to be laid on the floor of a narrow tunnel, eight and half metres deep and running through It during over one hundred metres un the middle of night with your heart beating increasingly due to adrenaline and the anxiety for reaching freedom outside the camp.
Certainly, all those men deserve our admiration.

0:50 always makes me laugh for some reason when Bartlett sees them coming back down the tunnel his face is like “wtf is these boys doing?”

The only thing I can say about this clip, is that those tunnels were a lot smaller than the movie shows.
Very claustrophobic, I know I would pannick if I got stuck!

There wasn't a real Danny in the great escape rather the Lithuanian Romualdas Marcinkus, who bribed guards and gathered the train schedules that the escapees used. Unfortuantly after he escaped him and the three others in his group were captured on their way to Lithuania and were executed by the Gestapo.

Surprised no one else has mentioned it by Willy is a great friend, crawling up and down that tiny hundred metre long tunnel after him, delaying his turn to get out, staying with danny the whole way through

From what i remember, Bronson was claustro. I have it too, unless i choose the space to hide in. But if we claustros are forced into a place we don't WANT to be in, we panic.

it has been mentioned, that because not everyone got out, perhaps those lives were saved funny enough
