Are the Gospels anonymous? Is the Bible hopelessly filled with contradictions? Has the text of the New Testament been corrupted over time? In this video, I interview Dr. William Mounce regarding his recent book "Why I Trust the Bible."

I translated his "The Analytical Lexicon to the Greek New Testament" into Portuguese. The most difficult translation till now for me, but what an experience!

Awesome interview Sean. I'm currently reading Jonathan Murrow's book on a similar topic and think Dr. Mounce adds another layer for me to consider.

Love your questions Sean and enjoyed this conversation. :) Keep the interviews coming. Waiting for another interview with Timothy Muehlhoff!! :)

Here in America it is an easy thing to explain oral tradition. Ask how many people learned the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag as a young child.

At about 29:00 Sean brings up a difference between Paul and James, and Mounce says, I don't have it memorized. I expected somebody to open the text, but no! What the exegesis!

Hey Sean,
Here is some information that I've learned about the crucifixion timing that makes waaay more sense than what the traditional belief is.
First off, Jesus himself said that He would be in the grave for three days and three nights. (Matt 12:40)
That is IMPOSSIBLE if it was on Friday He died and was buried. (Friday- Sunday morning, 1 day 1 night)
Secondly, the Sabbath that was coming up was a High Sabbath, which was observed ONCE a year, and could land on any day of the week, (John 19:31, Leviticus 23:4-8) apart from their weekly Sabbath. (Saturday)
So there would have been two Sabbaths in that week.
The day that perfectly fits is Nisan 14, 30 AD. Which turns out to be a Wednesday and the High Sabbath would have been on Thursday Nisan 15.
From Wednesday before sundown to Saturday night at sundown is 3 days and 3 nights. (72 hrs) Jesus didn't lie.
To help corroborate this is the perceived contradiction of the women who bought the spices AFTER the Sabbath (Mark 16:1) and prepared them BEFORE the Sabbath.(Luke 23:56)
They bought and prepared the spices on Friday the day between the two Sabbaths.
Mark and Luke are simply talking about two different Sabbaths for that week. POV
This is worthy of your or anyone's serious consideration. Check it out.

Does anyone know

Back in the day, JOSH McDowell wrote "Evidence That Demands a Verdict".
Then, Jeffrey Jay Lowder went through it and criticized it.
QUESTION: Did either Josh or Sean ever write any comeback or rebuttal to Lowder?

Also, in another video, Sean mentions that he stumbled on some stuff online from The Secular Web that attacked his dad's writings and it got him questioning/wondering. My 2nd question is:
HOW?-- did Sean quell those doubts or questions or decide that the objections didn't hold up? Did he ever say? Where can I read or listen specifically about that? if anyone knows, thank you!

Great video. @minute 27:00. About the list of 200 plus contradictions that were simple and obvious misunderstandings. Gary Habermas would call this the work of "Basement Bloggers", i.e., ignorant non scholarly "experts". Love that term. And the problem is, they're all over the place. That's why we need to "study to show ourselves approved..."

SIMPLE EXAMPLE: Women at the Tomb
Mark: THREE women go to the tomb and find the stone already rolled back with an angel inside.
Matthew: TWO women go to the tomb and there is an earthquake, an angel comes down from heaven and rolls the stone back for the women.
John: ONE woman goes to the tomb, finds the stone already rolled back, and then runs and tells two of the disciples.

Thank you so much for all you do for us laymen! Why are prominent pastors with a seemingly solid background suddendly denying the veracity of scripture? I wish you would address this to help us.

I'm currently reading about the differences between the Byzantine vs Alexandria text... And I can tell you more push back is needed on what your guest is purporting as fact, such as the "fact" that the extra text was added later. There's no way to know for certain.

Weren’t some of the most famous scientists/mathematicians of the ancient world together in Alexandria? It seems to have been more like a university than just a library.
