I'm getting a late start as I was focused on regular potatoes, but I'm going to try this. I just got some beautiful organic sweet potatoes from Misfits Market, a mail order place that sells imperfect groceries at a discount.

I am in SC and started mine in water about 2 months ago, already have 8 vines in water with roots from the potatoes I put half submerged in water. Going to start some more today half buried in soil, teaching my grandchildren how to grow them another way thanks to you, we still have a couple of months to go before planting outside. Thank you for another great informative video.

My best ever crop of slips came from a sweet potato that got lost in the back of the pantry. I spotted a couple of leaves near the door and followed the vine to find a sweet potato nest behind the flour sacks. I took a dozen strong slips and then put the tuber in compost in the greenhouse where it promptly died. I harvested 2-3kg of tubers from each of those slips. So then I put a tuber the same size as the original in the pantry where I found the nest hoping for a repeat. Nope. It just shrivelled up 🤨

Growing them this year for the first time here in Southern USA. Excited to see if our hot and humid summer will produce thriving sweet potatoes!

I tried to grow slips from 3 organic potatoes. One using your 3rd method and 2 in jars of water. The only one that produced anything was one that was in a jar of water. The one thing that I did different with that one is that I kept that suspended over a heat source (a regular light that I could rest it on straddling the shade). That one has exploded with slips. There has got to be 15 or so growing from it. Bright green and very healthy looking. Thank you for the info you provided in your video. Well put.

I started in January, I got my sweet potatoes from Tesco, the organic section, plus they grew very well, had to eat some the foliage, because of poor light, the leaves were withered. Starting new slips to plant and grow the sweet potatoes.

Great advice thanks! I'm growing them for the first time this year, they have been water propagating for about 2 months now and have taken off 7 slips from 1 potatoe! Seeing as my slips are small but rooting I think I'll start them in small pots before moving them to the perminant growing pot. Thanks again for the tips!

I am, ive already planted up two with wonderful root systems and have some in water waiting. I also kept the potatoes to grow more slips. I’m excited for the results and can’t wait to plant them out in the poly tunnels 💚 I used the water system with great results but will try the soil system next year! Thank Tony 💚 Geri

Thanks Tony! Life has been crazy in the red zone of the new crud where I live in Snohomish County, WA state in the US. I haven't been out in public for 2 wks. We still have frost...couple nights ago 29 degrees F, but a few days ago I planted greens and herbs in a raised bed. I want to start sweet potatoes soon so going to try your third method. Thank you and stay safe! Blessings from across the pond.👵🐕🌱

I arrived at the best (third) way to create slips without seeing anyone do this, and yes it really works perfectly. I used Tesco Sweet potoes, just scrubbed them gently with warm water and a nailbrush and they have all sprouted. I think the key is keeping the compost moist all the time and sprouting them in a propogator at a near constant 75 deg F on a well lit window cill.
