Yep that's the correct way to deal with cast blocks.
It's called stitching because each screw is meant to overlap the last.
Therefore, locking it all together.
There is no way the screws can back out because they are all locked together.
That is why the last screw must be placed towards the head as its clamped down and not towards the block.
Once it has been machined it will function again like normal.
It's a brilliant old school method 💪👍

Этой методе сотня лет, для тех кто думает что болты выкрутится, это не так, потому что они идут в нахлест друг на друга, для тех кто думает что при нагреве что то изменится, это не так, так как болты будут расширяться вместе с блоком, единственное, надо подобрать болты из того же материала что и блок, иначе будет разница в расширении, но все равно считаю эту технику бредовой

This is a very old method and one of my diesel machines is still working today without any problem. I've changed the piston 5x and there's no problem with the engine block that's been repaired in this way.

Nice tools, nice work but block is still broken and now with the additional splitting force applied by the screws.
But with a radiator leak stopper and a raw egg you should be fine . Good luck...to the customer

Tbh the method its actually pretty impressive I've never witnessed someone attempt to completely fuck something in such a way, the amount of time and effort that's gone into denying this motor a continued life is simply astounding

I wouldnt have much faith in that. If the block had to be saved i think id prefer to weld it first then bore it out and sleeve it. I just think when the block heats up youll loose compression through the screw gaps.

Засверлить край трещины и вставить болт это правильно, но хреначить болтами всю трещину зачем? Еще больше травить газы будет

This looks like a method called lock and stitch…. I don’t know about this in general, but lock and stitch method works extremely well and usually leaves the repaired area stronger than the rest of the block. However this is not lock and stitch
