When he arced to the block to take the excess wire off, I knew.

After you had the MIG out, I started making popcorn just to see the looks from the machine shop.

Any shop worth their salt would sleeve that block, no problem. You have a lot to learn bro.

If it is an aluminum block that has steel sleeves and the aluminum is cracked, not that big of a deal to TIG weld it with 4043 filler wire and then have the machine shop bore it out and re-sleeve it. I do it every once in awhile for one of my customers that has me do a lot of welding repair to outboard engine parts. Most of it is grinding out corroded aluminum from heads blocks and lower units, then putting fresh metal back with the TIG welder before he sends them to his machinist to get resurfaced and reconditioned so they are ready to assemble into a freshly rebuilt reconditioned outboard engine for a boat. But I would not consider repairing something like that, in the way that he did it.

You had me there. I was shaking my head. Thinking ok maybe it will get resleaved, oh no "maybe they can bore it or hone it" 😕. Great skit 👍

The hole time I was really hoping to see the machine shops reaction 🤣

It actually could have been repaired. Bore it and sleeve it. Ive seen a few times where a sleeve was used on 350s. They have issues with core shift during casting making the cylinder walls too thin to bore more than .020 safely.

😂 had me actually watching like, ” I’ve never seen a cracked block welded, how’s this going to turn out?” Exactly how I thought lol. Good stuff 👍 needed that laugh

You can mix saw dust with motor oil. That’ll seal off small cracks in the block. Temporarily maybe.

I was so ready to see the machinists laugh him out of the shop! I thought this was serious for a minute..I was thinking "That block is done. All my years of experience have shown me it's not repairable but maybe there is a new method that I don't know about??"" Lmao!!!
