Cracks can be formed on the lower part of the leg or cracks refer to the cracks on the lower part of the heel. The cracks that form on the lower part of the leg, they are mainly because of dryness. Dryness is very common and it increases in both spectrum of age. Young children are also prone for dryness as well as elderly people because the oil secretion is not so good in these extremes of age. So whenever the skin becomes dry, it is just like a dry land. The cracks are there, you see all those vertical cut like things. Sometimes there is only itching associated with the cracks and sometimes there can be even pain and these cracks are a good entry point for the bacteria or the fungi and the people are prone for infection. When infection sets in you can see redness, swelling pain and there is lot of warmth in that area. So cracks on the legs are one simple thing that can be treated. Keep applying moisturizer regularly; means apply a lot of oil. Coconut oil is one of the best because of its light molecular weight and because of its affinity for skin proteins. So what it does is it just goes and sits on the skin proteins, adhere to that and it prevents water loss, thereby it hydrates your skin very nicely. Coming to the cracks on the heels, it is mainly because of the thickness on the skin there, but sometimes people have unusually very thick layer of dead skin there and that usually swells and that shrinks when we are expose to water. What happens is when we are exposed to water, the skin absorbs water and it swells and when the skin becomes dry, it swells. So during this process, there is a ballooning and shrinking ad sometimes this thick skin gives way and when this develops we develop cracks on the feet. So one simple thing to do is keep the skin hydrated, use lot of moisturizers. Use a closed foot wear, use a simple shoes even at home, keep one separately for the home, second thing is lot of moisturizing and third is try to reduce the abnormally dead skin layer . A thick dead skin layer has to be reduced and that can be done by scrubbing. So once you start applying a thick moisturizer for the feet, the skin becomes soft and immediately after bathing , you can just scrub it lightly and the dead skin goes off. By doing this regularly, you can reduce the cracks in the feet.
