I’m perpetually fascinated by how the heck people fit all this stuff in their pack. I have the pack, I have the stuff, but I couldn’t dream of taking all that. Maybe half lol.

Hot tip with the toilet paper - what I do is pull out the carboard in the middle of and it packs up much smaller. I then put it in zip bag

I tested a tyvek groundsheet last year in the Pyrenees and it was great. Like others said, put it through the washing machine once and then the dryer with dryer balls (no heat required) to rough it up. It still made some noise when I un/folded but made no noise once laid down or wrapped up with my tent. You can add gromet ties with some sewing and seam sealer but I haven't done that. I did the Great Ocean Walk in mid-December 2014 with a hammock tent. The hike is colder than people expect; temps drop at night. I stashed a resupply at Johanna Beach in scent proof bags and a dry bag up in a tree so I wouldn't have to carry the full 6-7 days of food! Also, at the time the Otway Historic Site sold camping food and gas so people might want to check that out. I had all my food sorted by I did by a S2S sleeping bag liner at the shop to beef up my warmth at night.

I am supposed to be on a camping trip. Instead sick in bed with covid.
Thank goodness I found you today.
Loved your hike with Cindy. She and I are about the same age. I can relate to her groans. That was perhaps way too ambitious. Better her than me tucked into bed with a cup of tea!

I feel like such an amateur after watching this! But your video has made me realise the importance of compacting. And I’m now ordering anti-blister socks. 🧦 Thank you Hayley!

It's honestly quite comforting to see someone else not going complete ultralight. I just got my gear together for a month-long hike, and the longest one I've done so far is 8 nights. It will be in northern Scandinavia, so I want some safety margins, but seeing basically everyone on youtube and reddit have a sub-5kg base weight and talking down on people who carry more, makes me worried, and makes me second-guess my purchases that honestly were quite expensive. My pack actually has been lighter at some point, I had one of those tents that use hiking poles to set up, but it felt so crammed, my sleeping bag touching the tent wall and so on (and I'm not a tall person). Maybe one day I'll lighten up my pack, but for now, my base weight without consumables is about 9kg. What did yours end up being?

Just wanna say this is the best channel I've seen so far. I've been hanging out here in less than a week and I already learned so much. Thank you! ❤

Try chucking your tyvek through the washing machine a couple of times it’s supposed to stop it being so crinkly. I still haven’t ordered mine for either of my tents so not sure if it actually works but have heard it does. Great gear load out. Can’t wait for the vids :)

Run your tyvek through the clothes washer. It will be much quieter

My cook system is almost identical. Small tip - put a small drop of water in the meth when you put it in the Toaks Siphon, will reduce soot on your pot! You'll love the X-Mid. It's fantastic in all weather and I can't rate it more highly.

Great job on the vid. And noice cam. Like your idea with the cloth inside the Toaks pot - stealing that trick from you.

A Garmin GPS helps you find where you are on the map when you are not 100 % sure. When used with real map and compass it can help you find your way in trackless areas and in a total white out.
