Another tip is to start with a lighter color yarn. It’s harder to see where you need to put your hook with the darker colors. Happy crocheting!

tip: if you're planning on making amigurumi/plushies, pick up a crochet hook that is 1-2 mm smaller than the recommended side for the yarn. this helps to keep your stitches small and tight so that there are less large holes in the project for the stuffing to show through. do keep in mind that going 2mm below recommended size can sometimes make it much more fiddly to work with, so as a beginner a 1mm decrease in hook size is probably more ideal :)

I just like her personality so much that I came to watch this not for content but to get a positive vibe from her.

Great video! I started in November and my preferences so far:
-I hate plastic needles, steel is better
-Amore Crochet hooks are the best ergonomics; flex those JoAnn coupons and it’s less expensive
-Stitch markers are a life saver
-DO NOT start with dark colored yarns even though they are your aesthetic, choose neutrals if you’re allergic to bright colors
-be patient and do one project at the time
-do something you’re excited about (I went crazy and did a patchwork cardigan)
-master the basic stitches first
-experiment with texture, cotton has a learning curve but it’s achievable

I’ve always wanted to learn, so I’m self taught; pretty jelly of those who had grandparents teaching you, cherish them!

I cannot say how much I appreciate you blurring people out in the background, as someone who has been caught in videos without my consent, I seriously wish more people did that as common courtesy

FOR BEGINNERS. I’ve never bought stitch markers in my life. They are incredibly useful and a MUST for when your crochet but I use Bobby pins instead and they work just fine, so if you don’t wanna spend too much money, Bobby pins are for you

My tips for beginning resources:
- Yes, medium to bulkier yarn is great especially for learning so that the stitches are visible and easy to maneuver.
- Preferably i'd suggest a "chainette construction" yarn, which has its "threads" interwoven instead of twisted together so that its not likely to splice while you work with it, causing frustrations.
- Yarn light in color is really nice for visibility of said stitches.
- Avoid plushy, fuzzy or velvet-y yarn, theyre known to have the fuzz rip off of the thread its on, making it harder to weave in ends, and quite slippery to work with.
- And lastly i'd suggest a plastic hook since atleast for me personally it was a smoother experience to learn with than metal, for its lack of grip on certain yarns.

I am a beginner crocheter but a fast learner and I have learned how to make Amigurumi chunky Dino’s and have started to sell them around school and Bernat blanket yarn is literally ALL I use it is SO easy to work with and personally I think it’s great for beginners because it doesn’t fall apart as much and if you make mistakes you can easily redo it. Definitely recommend Bernat Blanket yarn Baby and regular.

I loved your tip about choosing a yarn that you love the feel/look of. That's my biggest joy in crochet is shopping through all the textures and colors. Being excited about a project and its materials/tools is what will keep you invested, so you'll actually finish it! lol

i very recently started crocheting (which is to say, about five hours ago) and i had looked up some tips and tricks and stuff and i can say that these all make a lot of sense. i’m using a 3mm hook and yarn for that size, so a bit on the small side, but it’s working pretty fine. right now i’m making tiny little scarves for stuffed animals. i can imagine this is gonna be a new hyperfixation for me… wish me luck!!

yes. i would recommend bernat blanket yarn with a 7mm hook, but the hook is definitely preference.

I am finally at the stage of getting all the wool at the start of my blanket and the colors depending on what is available and how I am feeling and I love that the finish product is given to a charity that is for sale in the shop for them to be able to do what they need to redcross have 3 blanket so far this year and I made my first pink one and I name them as well it's not a part of the rebuilding of the town I live in a different way to make a difference in a way that it is very much appreciated by the people involved and I love that the right person finds it
