I used to add smoke and explosions etc in After Effects after everything was rendered, but these days I try and get as much “in camera” as I possibly can. The downside is having to re-render everything if I need to make small changes. The upside is how easy integrating everything together is, and being able to move the camera without having to track these elements in. They also cast shadows, and if you’re using a raytracing engine - cast light.

The paper is just a basic cloth sim with some wind and turbulence added (As basic as it gets).

For those wondering about the landing gear rig - There is no rig. I just hand animated the bottom parts and then went back and animated the gear section to match as best I could. Sometimes that’s a lot quicker than creating a rig for the sake of a few seconds (if you’re as inexperienced as I am when it comes to rigging 😂 )
