"Let us consider if we have an totally theoretical idea with a viable business plan and with this stuff we go to ask for a patent for this theory... won't it be put out in a particular domain, possibly open to some pilferage threat without benefiting us?"

Thank you so much Evan... That's a kind of great guidance form your side.
Well, how I got it, as far as patent is concerned, its good to have an idea officially declared as unique and easy to be recognized by those who want it, with all its pros and cons. But there are some other ways possible too.
I feel one can even go raw with one's idea to set a deal with someone whom one feel is in need of such an idea. Then a smartly designed proposal may be playing wonders.
Am I right?

Evan,
Here's where I'm at with my idea, which is a continuation of some some prior art, AND definitely non-obvious. It is the "next generation" or evolution of some previous ideas/products/prior art, yet completely different altogether. My "idea / product" as you can call it 1) Would need to be manufactured - I know the company that can manufacture it. 2) Would need to be licensed to them (and the market is justified for this product) - as I know the product is beyond any scope of knowledge and finances to start a business to develop it. Hence, I will have only drawings and product descriptions / processes, not a physical prototype. 3) *Would want / need a patent to protect my idea / product.

It greatly concerns me that the company I would like to approach would simply say, "We absolutely understand your idea, we can make it, we love your idea and it fits perfectly to our business model. Yet they blow me off, tweak the patent and run with the product bypassing me and not having to pay royalties to me. (CAN THIS HAPPEN?!) This is the big ticket to getting paid from this company! That is why I want a patent.

Yet, I don't have the funds to chase after the non-provisional patent. And, I'm sure many product developers are in the same boat. I would have to approach an investor to partner with me if they see the opportunity of the product to make us money. This is not what I want to do if possible. I wouldn't be able to get a real life finished product made without the help of the company on my radar.

So I pose this question to you,
Is it worth it for me to do a PPA and "first to file" regardless if I ever have the opportunity to actually get a provisional patent finalized. It seems to me that it's a waste of time even if I file a PPA, disclose the product to a company during a business proposal / presentation, who could potentially and simply steal my idea by making a few tweaks to my patent?

Isn't this the reason why entrepreneurs / product developers WANT to file a PPA and to attain the patent rights to their idea / product?

Note: I've spent and will continue to spend numerous hours to make certain I make the right decision to move forward with PPA. My idea is worth it, otherwise I wouldn't be taking the time to type this message to you. Thank you for your response. I look forward to hearing your response.

But whenever you sue someone steals your idea won't you easily get the lawyer money back by suing him/her?

You can't patent an "idea, " you can only patent a make and model.
