I always use the vent, no matter if it's rush or ambush.

A tip for new doors players,

Rush & Ambush are very similar but also very distinguishable. When the lights flicker and you hear light bulbs breaking and a FNAF like scream, thats Rush.
Ambush takes a few seconds until you hear its scream. Thats how you recognize the difference and how to tackle them.

I just realized that evertime ambush spawns, there is always a sound of something falling down or maybe thunder, which is meaning he has propably knocked everything down in the other previous rooms you were in

Getting into a vent, almost getting caught by the monster when getting into the vent, and encountering ambush is very chill

you can actually hear the difference between rush or ambush -- both use different sounds to signify which one they are -- rush is more frequent, but ambush is easier to identify when you hear it compared to rush

Personally, I love ambush. It's always a shocker when he shows up because most of the time you're expecting rush. His bright glow being a contrast to the now dark room makes him feel like a force to be reckoned with.
Not to mention his scream is unironically bone-chilling.

this happened to me but, without the vent part, on door 6 the lights flickered but i waited a few seconds with my friend, and noticed that it was ambush, 2 doors later and halt appeared
