Review code provided by Sony Computer Entertainment.

A graphic comparison of the new PC release of God of War [2018] to its original PS4Pro (enhanced on PS5) counterpart.

This detailed analysis covers every aspect of the game's visual presentation, including model complexity, environments, lighting, along with a brief overview of the performance differences between the two systems.

PS5 version is set to its performance mode as this has been proven to not degrade visual quality in any discernable way.

(I'll be redoing this either this year or next, stay tuned!)

It takes a trained eye to see what you're seeing.

The interesting thing about these comparisons are seeing the various tricks used to make the game come alive. It's also a huge reminder that games have a very, very looong way to go before resembling real life. The surface is barely scratched.

I'm enjoying this game on PC, now we just need the classic GoW games on pc as well.

I'm impressed that it runs well. It seems they learned a lot from other ported Playstation games. I hope more Playstation ports coming will be as polished as GOW.

Your examples were great! Helps give pros of both devices; like showing Atreus in sunlight changing for PC

Don't forget to watch this video on '4k' if your device supports it!

Another excellent video, Nick. Though would've appreciated the difference with Nvidia Reflex when dodging attacks and pressing keys, though not sure how we measure such metrics but it clearly does work from what I've tested so far on my machine.😊

5:32 - What I don't understand about textures like this is that they didn't turn up the resolution on them the SLIGHTEST bit, even if they had to consider the regular PS4's power, besides also the budget for memory, streaming, and storage and the like (of which memory is probably the biggest issue). But even if they didn't have the budget, they could've done a proximity-thing, just like LOD, where textures rendered more up-close would turn a slightly higher resolution to hide the pixelation. - Either that or just smoothe out the pixelation on the texture itself to avoid that "low-res" look.
Because that's what I dislike most when it comes to textures, when you can tell the pixelation. - Besides, I rarely encountered this with 'The Last of Us Part II', which is AMAZING when it comes to how they handled textures. I could not believe that there was so much detail and lack of "low-res look" on smaller objects for a PS4-developed game. - That's another reason why I think it wouldn't have been necessary in a 2018 game like "GoW". - But, of course, they might have different approaches and a different engine and so on.

God of War is a gorgeous game, even though it's still a ps4 game technically. Can't wait to see what SMS can do with a native PS5 game.

The ps5 version isn't really a ps5 version though, it's the ps4 version running at 60fps on ps5. It would be interesting to see how much of the pc version would run on the ps5 and at what point it affects the performance. I am not expecting it to out preform a $2000 gaming pc but for $500 you can't complain about the way the game looks, when it even looked incredible on ps4.

Doesn't matter the platform you're playing on because this game looks Spectacular on Console and on PC! I enjoyed this game on ps4 pro! One of the best games, I recommend it.

There used to be massive differences between PC and console versions.
It's shocking how close this versions are nowadays! If you can't compare side by side, there is essentially no difference.

Do you think they will roll out a patch for 'Exclusive Full-screen' ? If I'm not wrong it will boost performance and reduce the latency by a bit. Even Horizon 2 years ago had exclusive full-screen.

Thank you for this detailed comparison :)

When you increase the resolution, the depth of field sampling increases, thus it is slightly more blurred on PC at 4K when depth of field kicks in.

2:37 I think this is some kind of depth of field they implemented but it didn't work out so well. Some games does that, I don't know if it's the case here. Maybe there is an option to turn it off?
